Jimmy Rogers Just Won A Recruiting Battle Cyclones Fans Will Love

In a major recruiting coup, Iowa State has pulled a top receiver prospect from Louisville's grasp, strengthening the Cyclones' 2027 class with a nationally ranked talent.

Iowa State picked up another 2027 recruiting win on Friday night, landing Withrow High School receiver Chuck Alexander after flipping him from Louisville.

Alexander had been committed to the Cardinals for an extended stretch before announcing the change. He originally chose Louisville after its 41-0 rivalry game victory over Kentucky last fall, but now he’s headed into Jimmy Rogers’ Cyclones class instead.

The wideout brings plenty of attention with him. Alexander holds about 25 scholarship offers, including Power Conference chances from 15 schools.

Indiana, the reigning national champion, is on that list, and Michigan offered him in early May. Wisconsin and South Carolina also showed significant interest.

For Iowa State, the addition gives the 2027 class four receiver commitments. Alexander joins Bryson Thompson, Blake Moser and Braylon Lane, who flipped to Iowa State from conference foe Houston.

The Cyclones now have 24 committed prospects overall in the class, which sits among the top 50 nationally. Alexander checks in as the No. 52 receiver in the country and the No. 348 player in the 247Sports Composite.

On the field, Alexander produced 368 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 21 catches during his junior season, leading his team in both yardage and scores. He also reports a 4.6-second 40-yard dash, a 4.2-second shuttle and a 55-second 400-meter dash.

The fit is easy to see. Alexander can work outside or in the slot, and while he’s not a pure speed threat, he tracks the ball well and plays bigger than his 6-foot-1 frame.

That profile gives Iowa State a potential “power slot” option, the kind of receiver role Tyler Roehl has compared to how the Detroit Lions use Amon-Ra St. Brown.

Jimmy Rogers Just Landed The Kind Of Commitment Iowa State Needed

The first full offseason of the Jimmy Rogers era has already brought a different kind of energy to Ames, and Iowa States recruiting board is starting to reflect that. After Matt Campbells departure to Penn State and a wave of transfer portal turnover, the Cyclones needed more than just stability - they needed traction, especially with a 2026 season that will open under a new head coach and a roster that has to be rebuilt in a hurry.

One of the clearest signs of progress came with a recent flip that gives Iowa State a much-needed boost in the passing game. The Cyclones have also been leaning into the future with their 2027 class, which is shaping up around offense as Rogers and his staff try to restock the program with players who fit what they want to build. For a team trying to turn the page quickly, landing that kind of commitment matters as much for momentum as it does for the depth chart. [Read more 🡒]

Jimmy Rogers Just Landed The Kind Of Recruit Iowa State Needed

Ames picked up a major recruiting jolt when Chuck Alexander Jr., one of the top wide receivers in the 2027 class, committed to Iowa State. The four-star pass catcher gives the Cyclones a headline addition at a position that can change the ceiling of an offense, and his pledge stands out even more because it is the highest-rated recruit Iowa State has landed since Jimmy Rogers took over as head coach.

For a program trying to build momentum under a new staff, landing a national receiver prospect like Alexander is the kind of win that can resonate beyond one cycle. It also says plenty about how Iowa State is being viewed right now, with Rogers and his staff pushing the Cyclones into conversations they do not always win, and there is still more to watch as the rest of this class continues to take shape.
