Iowa State picked up a major early piece for its 2027 class on November 5, 2026, when 3-star EDGE Ty Tautolo announced his commitment to the Cyclones.
“100% committed!!! Thank you God! @CoachBibbs52 @CycloneFB @ISURogers3 @BrandonHuffman pic.twitter.com/AdQ9iw1iNB”
Tautolo, who plays at Lake Stevens High School in Lake Stevens, Washington, checks in at 6-foot-5 and 245 pounds. He arrives with a long list of suitors, too. Per 247Sports, his offer sheet included Michigan, Nebraska, UCLA, Arizona, Cal, Oregon, Texas A&M, West Virginia, Notre Dame, and Washington, among others.
The commitment also reflects a connection that stretches back before Jimmy Rogers ever got to Ames. Rogers and his staff first offered Tautolo while they were at Washington State, sending that offer two summers ago before Rogers coached his first season with the Cougars. That relationship followed Rogers to Iowa State and helped push the Cyclones across the finish line.
Tautolo gives Iowa State another intriguing addition on the defensive front and another highly recruited name in Rogers’ 2027 group. He’s also teammates with another Cyclones pledge in the class, 3-star WR/ATH Blake Moser.
For Rogers and his staff, this is an early recruiting win with real weight behind it. Tautolo had plenty of major programs in the mix, but the bond built over time proved to be the difference.
It also says something about Iowa State’s reach under Rogers. Landing a prospect from Washington while holding off a stack of Power Four programs is no small thing, especially at this stage of the 2027 cycle.
And with Tautolo’s size already in place, Iowa State has a player it can continue to shape at EDGE as the staff keeps building out the class.

Baylor Faces A Bigger Test After Its Sudden Midseason Spark
Baylors recent surge came with Joe Klanderman serving as interim head coach, and the Bears looked sharper on both sides of the ball in that game. Now the challenge gets more demanding with Iowa State next, a matchup that will tell a lot about whether Baylors sudden midseason spark was a one-game lift or something more lasting.
For the Cyclones, the assignment is straightforward: keep building on a strong recent win while tightening up a defense that has had its issues. Baylors improved form makes this a useful measuring stick, and Iowa State will need to be ready for the Bears to lean on Aiden Flora and try to turn momentum into something more durable. Iowa State Fans Finally Get To Honor A Cyclones Standard Setter
Iowa State fans are getting a long-awaited chance to celebrate one of the programs most respected standard setters. The athletic department announced that Melvin Ejims No. 3 jersey will be retired on Feb. 27 during halftime of the game against TCU, adding another permanent honor for a player whose college career left a lasting mark in Ames.
Ejim, a former Big 12 Player of the Year and Iowa State Hall of Fame inductee, remains part of the programs modern identity even while playing professionally overseas. The ceremony will be only the seventh jersey retirement in mens basketball history for the Cyclones, a small and exclusive list that underscores just how much Ejim meant to the program. [Read more 🡒]
Iowa State Suddenly Needs More From Jamarion Batemon
Iowa States season opener against Memphis brought an early reminder that the Cyclones may need more than they got from Jamarion Batemon. The sophomore guard, coming off a strong freshman year, played 26 minutes and never got on the board, finishing 0-for-6 from the field and 0-for-4 from three-point range as the Cyclones came away with a loss to start the 2026-27 season.
For a team trying to settle in quickly, Batemons quiet night stands out because of what he is expected to provide beyond scoring. Iowa State is looking for steadier production and a stronger presence from one of its key guards as it turns the page to the next game, and how Batemon responds will be worth watching closely.
