Iowa State’s defense took a worrying hit Saturday when cornerback Jaheim Singletary was carted off the field after a collision in the first quarter against Bowling Green.
The play came with 3:58 left in the opening quarter at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames. Singletary ran into Iowa State teammate Willie Breland while the Cyclones were in the middle of a tackle attempt, and Singletary stayed down as the medical staff rushed in to check on him.
After being evaluated on the field, Singletary was placed on a cart and taken away.

Iowa State did not immediately provide any details on the injury or how serious it might be.
Singletary is in his first season with the Cyclones after transferring from Arkansas in the offseason. The redshirt senior cornerback played three years for the Razorbacks, appearing in 29 games with 12 starts. During that stretch, he totaled 54 tackles, one interception and seven pass breakups.
Before Arkansas, Singletary began his college career at Georgia in 2022.
His injury arrived as Iowa State was finishing non-conference play and preparing to open Big 12 action next weekend against Utah. The Cyclones came into Saturday at 1-1 after last week’s 16-13 loss to No. 21 Iowa.
