Cyclones Ready for NCAA Tournament Showdown with Tennessee State
Iowa State's men's basketball team is gearing up for another thrilling NCAA Tournament appearance, marking their fifth consecutive trip to the big dance. As a No. 2 seed in the Midwest Region, the Cyclones are set to face off against No. 15 seed Tennessee State in the Round of 64 at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis.
Head coach T.J. Otzelberger, who has been instrumental in the Cyclones' consistent success, found himself with an unexpected scouting opportunity back in December. While watching a game between his former team, UNLV, and Tennessee State, Otzelberger got a firsthand look at the Tigers' grit and determination.
Reflecting on the matchup, Otzelberger shared his respect for Tennessee State's head coach, Nolan Smith, and the impressive season his team has had. "I watched early this year, they played UNLV, and I caught part of that game," he noted. "I was really impressed with how hard they played and how competitive they were as a group."
As the Cyclones prepare for the tournament, fans can expect a battle of wills on the court. Iowa State's seasoned players will need to bring their A-game to fend off a spirited Tennessee State squad eager to make their mark. The stage is set for what promises to be an engaging and competitive showdown.
