Former Cyclones Are Making Noise Across The NFL Right Now

A mixed week of performances highlighted the impact of former Cyclones in the NFL, with standout games marred by key injuries.

Ten former Cyclones saw action in Week 4 of the NFL, and their workloads stretched across offense, defense and special teams for a combined 543 snaps.

Brock Purdy turned in the biggest stat line of the group in San Francisco’s 24-14 win over the Broncos. He completed 19 of 30 passes for 218 yards and two touchdowns, with his longest completion covering 56 yards to George Kittle. Purdy also added 10 carries for 29 yards and was on the field for all 66 offensive snaps.

Jaylin Noel was busy for the Texans in their 34-30 loss to Dallas, contributing in multiple ways even though he did not start. He caught three passes for 82 yards, ran once for four yards, returned two punts for eight yards and brought back four kickoffs for 106 yards. Noel played 34 offensive snaps and nine on special teams.

Xavier Hutchinson also got the start for Houston in that game and finished with three receptions for 46 yards. He was on the field for 17 offensive snaps and one special teams snap.

David Montgomery started for Houston as well and finished with 24 rushing yards on 10 carries. He also had zero receptions for 19 yards after receiving a lateral from Dalton Schultz, and he logged 31 offensive snaps.

On the defensive side, Will McDonald IV started in the Jets’ 23-12 loss to the Bears and posted five tackles. He played 66 defensive snaps and nine on special teams.

Kene Nwangwu made his 2026 regular-season debut for New York after a back injury sidelined him for three weeks. He did not start in the loss to Chicago, but he returned two Cairo Santos kickoffs for 55 yards and played five snaps, all on special teams.

Jalen Travis started at right tackle for Indianapolis in its 30-13 win over Washington in London and played every one of the Colts’ 66 offensive snaps, plus six on special teams.

Domonique Orange saw action for Minnesota in a 15-10 win over Miami, playing 14 defensive snaps and two on special teams.

Darien Porter was on the field for the Raiders in their 30-27 loss to the Chiefs, contributing three defensive snaps and 20 on special teams.

A few former Cyclones were unavailable. Breece Hall missed the Jets’ game against Chicago because of a quad injury he suffered in Week 3 against the Lions.

Jake Hummel was placed on injured reserve on Sept. 26.

TJ Tampa has been on injured reserve since Sept. 19.

Charlie Kolar was also out after breaking his forearm in Week 2, and Eyioma Uwazurike was listed in the source but without a Week 4 game line.

BYUs Undefeated Run Suddenly Carries One More Concern Against Iowa State

BYUs unbeaten start has turned Week 6 into more than just another road test, with the No. 8 Cougars carrying both momentum and expectations into a matchup against an Iowa State team still sorting through a transition year under coach Jimmy Rogers. Bear Bachmeier has helped fuel that rise with 10 total touchdowns in four games, and the Cougars now get a chance to keep their perfect record intact against a Big 12 opponent that has not always made life easy on the ground.

For Iowa State, the concern goes beyond simply slowing down an elite-looking team. The Cyclones have had trouble defending the run, which makes this a tricky spot even before considering the pregame questions around personnel and the betting market that has formed around the matchup. If Iowa State is going to turn this into a real fight, it likely starts with fixing the issues that have made this one of the more revealing early-season games on the schedule. [Read more 🡒]

Jaylen Raynor Is Giving Iowa State Fans A Real QB Debate

Iowa States 3-2 start has already given the Cyclones plenty to sort through, from a pair of losses to Utah and Iowa to wins over West Virginia, Bowling Green and Southeast Missouri State. One of the biggest developments has been at quarterback, where Jaylen Raynor, the Arkansas State transfer, worked through a rough opening stretch with shaky completion numbers and some interceptions before settling in and helping steady the offense.

What makes the conversation around Raynor more interesting now is how quickly his role is growing. His passing game is becoming a more important part of what Iowa State does each week, and the recent uptick has created a real debate for fans watching this offense take shape. The Cyclones are still early in the season, but the trajectory at quarterback has become one of the clearest reasons the rest of the schedule feels worth watching closely. [Read more 🡒]

Jimmy Rogers Just Gave Iowa State Fans A Reason To Dream

Iowa State left Week 5 with more than a win over West Virginia. It also gave Jimmy Rogers his first Big 12 victory as head coach, a milestone that matters as much for the long view of the program as it does for the standings in early October. The Cyclones looked like a team that can still build something this season, and Aiden Floras five-touchdown eruption made sure the performance had the kind of punch fans remember.

Rogers has only had a short runway to put his stamp on the program, but victories like this can change the temperature around a season in a hurry. For Iowa State, the challenge now is turning one encouraging afternoon into something more durable, because one conference breakthrough is nice, but it also raises the question of how far this group can go if the offense keeps finding answers like it did against West Virginia.
