Iowa Women Stay In The Hunt For Another Elite 2027 Recruit

With top recruits Mya Wilson and Jada Seubert in their sights, Iowa's women's basketball program is poised to secure one of the nation's best recruiting classes for 2027.

Iowa’s women’s basketball program is putting together the kind of recruiting run that gets people’s attention fast.

With Jan Jensen already having secured major talent, the Hawkeyes are now in position to add another big name in the class of 2027. One more decision is still coming, and if it breaks Iowa’s way, the 2027 group could pair with the 2026 class to give the Hawkeyes a serious load of talent in Iowa City.

The player at the center of it is Mya Wilson, a four-star guard who is down to four schools. Iowa made the final cut along with Ohio State, Minnesota and TCU. Wilson visited Iowa in June and is scheduled to meet with the other programs soon.

Wilson, a 6-foot-1 shooting forward from Hill-Murray High School in Maplewood, Minnesota, is the No. 1 recruit in her state. Per 247Sports, she is ranked No. 11 among shooting forwards and No. 44 overall in the class of 2027.

If Iowa gets Wilson, it would add another major piece to a class already headlined by another four-star.

That player is Jada Seubert, a four-star combo guard from Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Like Wilson, Seubert is the top recruit in her state.

She is ranked No. 4 among combo guards and No. 45 overall in the 2027 class. Iowa currently sits at No. 6 in the 2027 team rankings, and landing both Seubert and Wilson would almost certainly push the Hawkeyes into the top five.

The momentum doesn’t stop there. Iowa’s 2026 class includes McKenna Woliczko, a five-star talent from San Jose, California, and one who could step in right away this year. The 2025 class also brought in another five-star in Addie Deal through the traditional recruiting process, although Deal has since moved on via the transfer portal.

Still, that original commitment is part of the bigger picture. Iowa’s recruiting has been working, and the Hawkeyes are now very much in the mix to turn that work into one of the stronger classes in the country.

Kris Murray Just Got A Fresh NBA Chance Iowa Fans Need To See

Kris Murray is getting a fresh NBA opportunity after Portland sent him to Memphis in a deal that reshuffled two rosters and gave the former Iowa forward a new setting to prove he belongs. For a player who has been working to carve out a stable role since leaving Iowa, the move gives him a chance to join a Grizzlies group that is clearly leaning into youth and looking for pieces who can grow with it.

Murrays next challenge is straightforward and significant: earn minutes on a roster that will be sorting through young wings and frontcourt options while preparing for summer league play. For Hawkeyes fans, it also creates a little extra intrigue on the summer calendar, with the possibility of familiar names crossing paths again as Murray tries to turn another fresh start into something lasting. Why Jayden Montgomery Matters More Than Ever For Iowa's Defense

Jayden Montgomery has spent enough time around Iowas defense to become more than just another veteran presence. The fifth-year senior linebacker played in every game last season, worked his way into seven starts and finished with 44 tackles and two pass breakups, but his value has gone beyond the stat sheet. Iowa sees him as one of its steadiest communicators, a physical presence in coverage and a player whose understanding of the defense helps settle a linebacker room that will need direction.

Montgomerys standing shows up in the way the Hawkeyes are handling the offseason, too, with the senior set to represent the program at Big Ten Media Days. For a defense that has long leaned on discipline and experience, his role matters even more now because Iowa will be asking younger linebackers to absorb a lot quickly. The real question is how much more responsibility Montgomery can shoulder, and how far that trust extends once the season starts to put him in the middle of everything. [Read more 🡒]
