When it comes to churning out top-tier offensive linemen, Iowa has carved out a reputation that’s hard to beat. The Hawkeyes’ program, under the steady guidance of Kirk Ferentz and George Barnett, has become synonymous with developing NFL-ready talent. Just glance at the Joe Moore Award trophy in their case, and you’ll see why aspiring linemen are drawn to this powerhouse.
This season, Iowa is in a reloading phase after sending key players like Logan Jones, Beau Stephens, and Gennings Dunker to the NFL. But with anchors like Kade Pieper and Trevor Lauck returning, the Hawkeyes have a solid foundation to build upon.
Iowa isn’t resting on its laurels, though. They’re aggressively targeting top prospects for the 2027 class, and one rising star has already caught their eye. Caleb Johnson, a versatile four-star offensive tackle and center, has locked in an official visit with the program.
Scheduled for June 5-7, Johnson’s visit is generating buzz. Despite sharing a name with former Hawkeye running back Kaleb Johnson, Caleb brings a unique skill set that fits seamlessly into Iowa’s system.
Johnson has already made an impression, visiting during Junior Day in January, where he promptly received an offer from Iowa. While 247Sports hasn’t ranked him yet, Rivals has recognized his talent, placing him in their Top 300 prospects list. He’s rated as a four-star prospect, Indiana’s No. 6 overall, the No. 15 offensive tackle, and the No. 18 overall in the 2027 class.
With two visits to Iowa under his belt, Johnson seems to be leaning towards joining the Hawkeyes. Rivals projects that he might just find his future home in Iowa City, adding yet another chapter to the Hawkeyes’ storied history of offensive line excellence.
