Iowa missed out on one of its 2027 point guard targets, but the Hawkeyes are still very much in the hunt for other elite guards.
TJ Jamison, a 6-foot-2 floor general from Calvary Baptist Academy in Shreveport, La., announced he is headed to Baylor. Iowa had been in his final group, along with USC, Oklahoma, LSU and Miami, and the Hawkeyes also brought him in for an official visit June 14-15.
Jamison enters his college choice with strong national buzz. Rivals lists him as the No. 34 player in the country, the No. 11 point guard and the top prospect in Louisiana. On the Nike EYBL Circuit with JL3, he put up 18.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game while shooting 36.4% from the field.
That’s a major win for Scott Drew and Baylor, but Iowa’s pursuit at the position is far from over. Ben McCollum’s staff remains heavily involved with two other highly regarded point guards: Cayden Daughtry and Jaxson Davis.
Daughtry has been one of the fastest risers in the class this summer, surging to No. 3 nationally in the 247Sports recruiting rankings after a huge Peach Jam run. Across eight games there, he averaged 32.3 points, 6.1 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 2.9 steals while shooting 58.6% from the floor and 48.8% from deep.
He is scheduled to visit Iowa on Sept. 12, the same weekend as the Iowa-Iowa State football game.
Davis is also firmly on the Hawkeyes’ radar. The Kansas standout is ranked No. 35 nationally by 247Sports, No. 10 among point guards and the top player in his state.
He recently included Iowa in his final six and is set to take an official visit to Iowa City on Sept. 19.
