The Wake Forest men's basketball program is experiencing a shakeup that could spell opportunity for the Iowa Hawkeyes. After stepping in for Fran McCaffery last March, Ben McCollum faced the daunting task of rebuilding Iowa's roster, retaining only two players: Cooper Koch and Jacob Koch.
But McCollum has shown his recruiting prowess by bringing in four promising talents for the 2025 class-Trey Thompson, Trevin Jirak, Tate Sage, and Peyton McCollum. Despite this success, future recruiting classes remain sparse, with only forward Ethan Harris committed for 2026.
Enter Quentin Coleman, a standout 2026 guard who recently reopened his recruitment after decommitting from Wake Forest. This move puts McCollum in a prime position to bolster his roster with another top-tier talent. Coleman, who was a former target for Iowa, is back on the market, and the Hawkeyes are among several schools vying for his attention.
Coleman's decision to decommit was confirmed by ESPN's director of scouting, Paul Biancardi, who noted that the guard has been released from his letter of intent with Wake Forest. Originally, Coleman had considered schools like Illinois, Iowa, St. Louis, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech before choosing the Demon Deacons.
A product of The Principia School in St. Louis, Missouri, Coleman has been turning heads with his impressive stats-averaging 22.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 2.5 steals per game in his senior season. His shooting has been particularly noteworthy, with a 63 percent field goal percentage and a remarkable 49 percent from beyond the arc, fueling his rise in the rankings.
Currently, Rivals ranks Coleman as a four-star prospect, Missouri's top player, the seventh-best shooting guard, and the 20th overall in the 2026 class. If Iowa can secure Coleman alongside Ethan Harris, they could form a formidable duo that might redefine the Hawkeyes' future on the court.
