Iowa’s TJ Hall Cleared for ReliaQuest Bowl After Injury Rumors
Just a few days ago, there were real questions swirling around TJ Hall’s availability for Iowa’s upcoming ReliaQuest Bowl matchup against Vanderbilt. The veteran defensive back, a key piece of the Hawkeyes’ secondary, was reportedly doubtful-casting a shadow over a defense that’s leaned on his experience all season. “Yeah. Somebody said there was a rumor about him, but he’s doing well,” Parker said.
“He’s back in shape, and we could have probably played him in the last game against Nebraska in an emergency. He’s doing well.
He doesn’t have a problem.”

Hall, a Fresno native and San Joaquin Memorial alum, has been a steady contributor throughout his four seasons in Iowa City. He’s appeared in 41 games, with 17 starts to his name, and has built a reputation as a reliable cover man in Phil Parker’s disciplined system. His career stat line-67 tackles, 12 pass breakups, and two interceptions-doesn’t scream flash, but it tells the story of a player who’s consistently done his job.
And in a program like Iowa’s, where defense is the identity, that kind of consistency matters.
Hall’s return comes at a critical time. The Hawkeyes are set to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores in the ReliaQuest Bowl on December 31 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
