Dana Holgorsen Sets High Expectations For Surprise Nebraska Star

Freshman phenom Luke Sorensen could be the game-changer Nebraska needs for a pivotal 2026 season.

As Nebraska's football team dives deeper into spring practice, one name keeps popping up: Luke Sorensen. The freshman tight end has caught the eye of offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen, who recently highlighted Sorensen as a standout player poised to make an impact in 2026.

Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 240 pounds, Sorensen isn't just big-he's strong. Holgorsen emphasized that Sorensen's strength goes beyond mere size.

"He's powerful. His pad level is low, and he's a 240-pound dude," Holgorsen noted.

"He's going to get a whole lot of looks. If you watch him run, with his power, I don't know how we can keep him off the field."

Last season, Luke Lindenmeyer led Nebraska's tight ends with 29 receptions for 312 yards and two touchdowns. As he heads into his senior year, Lindenmeyer is expected to maintain his starting role. However, Sorensen's impressive high school stats-25 catches for 306 yards and three touchdowns, with an average of over 30 yards per catch-suggest he could push for significant playing time as a freshman.

With Nebraska entering a pivotal season in 2026, the Huskers are eager to find new ways to secure victories and rack up yards. Holgorsen sees Sorensen as a potential secret weapon, ready to contribute to the team's success.
