Caitlin Clarks Iowa Return Turned Into A Hawkeye Celebration

Caitlin Clark's new Nike signature shoe draws massive crowds and reinforces her status as a trailblazer in women's sports.

IOWA CITY - Caitlin Clark’s first signature shoe with Nike drew a familiar kind of scene in Iowa City: a long line, rainy weather and plenty of fans willing to wait it out.

The former Iowa women’s basketball star released the Caitlin 1s on Oct. 1, and the three-day pop-up store downtown quickly became a destination for fans hoping to leave with shoes, hoodies or T-shirts. Online, the shoes disappeared in minutes. In Iowa City, there was still a shot to get a pair.

For some, the wait was part of the fun. Eleven-year-old Nora Clark spent her birthday in line with her mom, Briana, and little brother, joining a crowd of fans drawn in by the release.

“I love all the attention she’s brought to women’s sports,” Nora and Briana said. “She’s a really good role model for young girls.”

Iowa alum Nick Bealmer, class of ’06, said the appeal was obvious.

“I went to school here a long time ago, I love the Hawkeyes, love Caitlin Clark and I love sneakers,” he said. “Just three great things all rolled into one.”

The pop-up also offered a customization station for special apparel, including hoodies and T-shirts. And the Nike Basketball “Nothing to See Here*” Iowa Takeover is set for Friday afternoon, with the 2026-27 Iowa women’s basketball team taking part in basketball challenges such as a 3-point contest and a hot-shot challenge.

Still, the main draw for hundreds of fans was the chance to get the Caitlin 1s. Some had already been in line for hours in the rain before the first group was let inside the Nothing to See Here* custom truck just after 4 p.m., where shoppers could choose from the two colorways in the initial launch.

“It’s an experience,” Iowa women’s basketball season ticket holder Anne Edwards said. “Now I can say I’ve done this, and I got these. I got great merchandise, including the gold ones.”

For Iowa fans, the scene was about more than a sneaker drop. It was another reminder of how far one of their own has come.

The pop-up store remains open until after ESPN’s College GameDay finishes ahead of Iowa football’s matchup against Ohio State on Saturday.

Clark plays in the Indiana Fever’s game against the Las Vegas Aces at 8 p.m. Thursday in the win-or-go home first round finale.

Thursday, Oct. 1: 4 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Friday, Oct. 2: 12 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 3: 8 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Iowas Upset Shot Vs Ohio State May Come Down To These Hawkeyes

The buildup to Iowas matchup with Ohio State has naturally centered on how the Hawkeyes can keep the Buckeyes uncomfortable long enough to make it a game. A lot of that conversation starts with Iowas own playmakers, from DJ Vonnahme to Braeden Jackson and Anthony Hawkins, because if the Hawkeyes are going to threaten an upset, it likely has to come from an offense that can do just enough to complement the defense.

The challenge only gets steeper when you look at Ohio States wide receiver talent, which can force Iowa to defend every inch of the field. Still, this is the kind of game where the Hawkeyes can hang around if the right names show up at the right time, and the real question is whether those players can turn possibility into something more against one of the countrys toughest teams. Iowa Still Has One Big Problem Heading Into Ohio State

Iowas offense has spent much of the first month of the season trying to find traction on the ground, and the issues have shown up most clearly against the tougher fronts on the schedule. The Hawkeyes have not had their top two running backs on the field together much this year because of injury, which has left the rotation unsettled and made it harder to establish the kind of run game Iowa usually leans on.

Ohio State comes in as a different kind of test, even if its defense has given up plenty of rushing yards in recent games. That opens the door a bit for Iowa, but it also puts the focus right back on the Hawkeyes biggest question: whether the backs can finally get healthy and give the offense the balance it has been missing. Iowa DBs Face Their Biggest Stage Yet At Ohio State

A trip to Ohio State has a way of turning every snap into a test, and for Iowas defensive backs it arrives with a spotlight that can reshape a seasons worth of perception. Deshaun Lee, Tony Diaz and Zach Lutmer are set to be central figures in how the Hawkeyes handle one of the Big Tens most demanding receiving groups, with Jeremiah Smith standing out as the kind of matchup that can expose mistakes and reward discipline in the same breath.

For Iowa, this is about more than surviving the game plan. If those young defensive backs hold up against the Buckeyes, it gives the Hawkeyes a better chance to keep the field manageable for the rest of the defense and stay in position on the offensive side of the ball. If they struggle, the pressure on Iowas whole operation rises quickly, which is why this stage feels bigger than a single Saturday in Columbus. [Read more 🡒]
