On the morning of November 15, 2024, Iowa City and University of Iowa police responded to a fire alarm at the fraternity house, only to uncover a troubling scene. Inside the basement, pledges were found blindfolded, shirtless, and covered in food-a stark reminder of the dangerous hazing practices that continue to plague college campuses despite ongoing efforts to eradicate them.
The video footage captures a tense exchange between fraternity members and law enforcement. Officers, clearly taken aback by the scene, questioned the young men, seeking someone to take responsibility.
One officer's exasperation was evident as he asked, “Does anyone want to be forthcoming about what’s going on? Anyone?
Because you gotta see it from my perspective of, what the f*** did I just walk into?” Another officer firmly stated, “This stops here, guys.

Joseph Gaya, a man accused of interfering with the investigation, faced charges of interference with official acts after allegedly refusing to leave the premises and advising witnesses against cooperating with the police. Despite these charges, the case against Gaya was dismissed when the state motioned to drop it, leaving him as the only individual to face legal repercussions.
