Taylor Swift had plenty to celebrate Sunday night at Arrowhead Stadium, and she made sure cameras knew it.
When Travis Kelce hauled in a first-quarter touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes against the Indianapolis Colts, Swift erupted from her luxury suite and pointed at her ring. “That’s my husband!” she shouted while cheering alongside her parents, Scott and Andrea Swift, and her mother-in-law, Donna Kelce.
Swift was back in the stands after skipping the Emmy Awards, returning to Kansas City for Week 1 with the Colts in town. She had also been at Arrowhead the previous week, when the Chiefs opened their season with a Monday night win over the Denver Broncos, sitting alongside Tom Cruise.
Kelce’s touchdown gave Kansas City its first score of the night, and Swift’s reaction quickly became part of the scene. Reports say the ring she pointed to is worth as much as $1 million.
The couple tied the knot in July at an extravagant ceremony at Madison Square Garden, where they rented out the arena for 1,000 guests, including a long list of music and film stars.
The celebration over Mahomes’ 31st birthday carried into Saturday night, when Swift and Kelce were among those at 1587 Prime, the steakhouse opened by Mahomes and Kelce last year. Less than a day later, Kelce was back at work, arriving at Arrowhead in a Louis Vuitton jacket with a black-and-blue pattern and an “LV” logo across the chest.
Off the field, Kelce was also named this week as one of the victims in a Ponzi scheme case that ended with Siddharth Jawahar being sentenced to 11 years in prison. Federal court records identified Kelce on Tuesday as one of the people who lost money after Jawahar, through Swiftarc Capital LLC, took in more than $35 million from investors.
According to a press release from the US Attorney’s office, Jawahar - an illegal immigrant - funneled nearly all of that money into a single investment, Philip Morris Pakistan. Prosecutors said that when the investment failed, he lied to Kelce and the other victims about how their money was doing and used new investor money to pay earlier clients in a classic Ponzi setup.
Court testimony also showed that Jawahar, 38, used Kelce’s money to support a lavish lifestyle, putting only around $10 million of the $35 million from investors into actual investments while spending heavily on private jets, luxury hotel rooms and restaurants.
