The Indianapolis Colts didn’t find much rhythm on offense against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, and the defense had its own issues getting off the field. But special teams kept the day from sliding further, and kicker Spencer Shrader put together a performance that landed him in franchise and league history.
Shrader accounted for 16 points by himself, going 5-for-5 on field goals and 1-for-1 on extra points. That meant he was responsible for 73% of the Colts’ points in the loss. His five field goals matched both his own personal best and the franchise single-game record.
The biggest strike came early. Shrader drilled a 57-yard field goal in the first quarter, a kick that tied Chris Boswell for the second-longest field goal at Acrisure Stadium. He also kept stacking milestones: he tied Adam Vinatieri for the second-most consecutive 50-yard field goals made in franchise history with seven, a run that dates back to last season, and he matched Dean Biasucci (1988) and Mike Vanderjagt (1998) for the fourth-most 50-plus-yard field goals in a single season in Colts history with six.
That wasn’t all. Shrader became just the second player in NFL history to make 34-plus field goals in his first 14 career games, joining Harrison Butker, who had 39 during that stretch.
The Colts’ offense was otherwise mostly limited to short bursts. Quarterback Daniel Jones threw for 267 yards, running back Jonathan Taylor totaled 45 rushing yards, and tight end Tyler Warren led the receiving game with 83 yards. Warren also scored on the ground, finishing with 7 catches on 9 targets for 83 yards, 1 carry for 1 yard and 1 touchdown.
Warren’s day added another set of marks to his early career resume. He tied Ken Dilger (8) for the second-most total touchdowns by a Colts tight end in his first two seasons, and he joined Ozzie Newsome as only the second tight end in NFL history to have two rushing touchdowns in his first two seasons. He also extended his streak to four straight games with at least five receptions, the longest such stretch of his career and tied for the longest in the NFL among tight ends this season.
Keenan Allen chipped in 5 catches on 9 targets for 45 yards and moved past Reggie Wayne (1,070) for the 11th-most receptions in NFL history.
On defense, linebacker Akeem Davis-Gaither again piled up tackles, finishing with seven, including one for loss. It was his fifth straight game with seven or more tackles, which is tied for the longest streak in the NFL this season. Edge defender Laiatu Latu added two pass breakups, making him the first Colts defensive lineman to post two-plus passes defensed in a game since DeForest Buckner in Week 9 of 2023.
The Colts also got a clean punting line from Rigoberto Sanchez, who had one punt for a 52.0-yard average and a 52.0-yard net average. On returns, Anthony Gould averaged 40.5 yards on two kickoffs, and he had a career-long 54-yard return in the first quarter.
The Steelers had their own splash play from Jaylen Warren, who became the first player with a rushing touchdown of 50-plus yards and a receiving touchdown of 80-plus yards in the same game since Herschel Walker did it for the Dallas Cowboys in Week 15 of 1986.

Jeff Saturday Shared The Colts Title Memory Fans Will Love
Jeff Saturday spent 13 seasons anchoring the middle of the Colts' line and became one of the defining figures of that Super Bowl XLI run, so when he looks back on the championship, it is not hard to understand which memories still stand out. The former five-time Pro Bowler recently revisited that title season, and his favorite recollection had less to do with the football itself than the family moment that followed once the celebration spilled beyond the field.
Saturday pointed to the postgame scene with his entire family gathered after the win, a snapshot that captured what the ring meant away from the locker room noise. The story also came with a lighter family twist involving his young son and an Xbox game, a detail that has the kind of charm fans tend to remember just as fondly as the trophy itself, especially with another Super Bowl broadcast scheduled for WRTV on Feb. 14. Colts Have A Real Chance To Rebound But One Problem Lingers
The Colts head into Week 6 with a chance to steady themselves against a Titans team that has not found its footing offensively, and the matchup on paper gives Indianapolis a real path back to .500. Tennessee has spent much of the early season searching for answers under center, with Cam Wards struggles continuing to shape the conversation around the franchise as the season moves along.
Indianapolis, though, is not walking into a clean fix-all game. Even with the Colts installed as a touchdown favorite, there is still a lingering issue on the other side of the ball, and it is one that could keep this from being a simple rebound opportunity. If the Colts are going to take advantage of a vulnerable division opponent, they will need to be sharper than they have been in some recent defensive outings. [Read more 🡒]
Colts Win Over Steelers Looks Bigger After Another WR Blow
The Colts win over Pittsburgh already carried some weight, but it may look even better now with the Steelers taking another hit at wide receiver. Roman Wilson went down with a finger injury during the game and is expected to miss multiple weeks, adding another layer of concern for a Pittsburgh passing game that was already short on healthy options.
Wilson is seeking a second opinion, which only underscores how unsettled the situation is for the Steelers as they move into the next stretch of the schedule. With Michael Pittman Jr. already on injured reserve and limited depth behind him, Indianapolis defense may have helped expose a problem that could linger for more than one week. [Read more 🡒]
