Quenton Nelson News Just Changed How Colts Fans See That Trade

Quenton Nelson's unexpected knee surgery throws a twist in Seattle's trade strategy and their offensive lines dynamics.

Former Colts All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson is headed for minor cleanup cartilage surgery on his knee, and the Seahawks will be without him for at least a few weeks.

Seattle has not put Nelson on injured reserve, which keeps the door open for a quicker return. With two games left before the team’s bye week, the expectation is that he could be back in about three weeks rather than sitting out the minimum four-game stretch an IR move would require before activation.

Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said Nelson was already dealing with the knee issue before the trade, tracing it back to Week 7 on the road against the Minnesota Vikings, when he was still with the Colts. The injury then got worse during Seattle’s 34-17 Monday Night home loss to the Chicago Bears.

That’s a tough break for a Seahawks team that is trying to stay in the playoff hunt, especially after Nelson looked exactly like the elite, plug-and-play left guard Seattle hoped it was getting. In his debut, he was as advertised and didn’t appear to miss a beat.

The timing is also notable because it appears both the Colts and Seahawks were aware of the knee condition, likely during the physical process. At the same time, the problem clearly worsened on Monday night.

It’s possible that interim GM Ed Dodds had that in mind when he moved Nelson before the trade deadline, with the thought that the knee issue could eventually cost the perennial All-Pro and pending NFL free agent games later in 2026. That’s speculation for now, but it’s part of the picture.

For his career, Nelson has been remarkably durable. He has missed just four starts, all of them coming in 2021 with the Colts.

Cowboys Still Waiting On Two Crucial Calls Before Colts Game

The Cowboys are still sorting through two key injury situations as they get ready for their Week 9 meeting with the Colts. Cornerback Joey Porter Jr. and wide receiver George Pickens were both limited, and head coach Brian Schottenheimer said each is hopeful to be available, though neither is exactly at full speed right now.

For Indianapolis, the final injury report will matter because it could shape how Dallas approaches both sides of the ball. Pickens and Porter remain questionable, and the picture should get clearer once the Cowboys release their last report before kickoff, leaving one more layer of uncertainty in a matchup that already carries plenty of stakes. Colts Could Be Pulled Into A Quarterback Race Fast

The quarterback market can move quickly this time of year, and the Colts could find themselves in the middle of it before long. Minnesota is sorting through its own options with Kyler Murray sidelined by a hamstring injury and Carson Wentz set to start against the Bills, a decision tree that could ripple beyond the Vikings building and into Indianapolis.

If Monday night goes a certain way, the Colts may suddenly be dealing with outside interest in Daniel Jones, with salary considerations and an incoming new general manager making the situation worth watching from their side. It is the kind of front-office wrinkle that can surface fast, especially when one team is trying to stabilize its quarterback room and another is already thinking ahead to next year. [Read more 🡒]

Colts Trade Deadline Direction Is Starting To Look Painfully Clear

With the trade deadline approaching, Indianapolis has become one of the more interesting teams to watch because the Colts are reportedly open to moving several players as they lean into a rebuild. That kind of posture naturally draws interest around the league, especially from teams looking for immediate help on defense, and it has put the Colts in the middle of a lot of deadline chatter even before anything actually happens.

One name that has surfaced in that conversation is Grover Stewart, a run-stuffing defensive tackle who could appeal to a contender trying to shore up the middle of its front. Stewart is in the final year of his contract, which only adds to the intrigue, and the Colts willingness to listen on veterans has already created a sense that more roster movement could be coming before the deadline passes.
