Jonathan Taylor Trade Buzz Is Putting The Colts In Control

With financial limitations in mind, the Vikings may choose to bolster their rushing attack by upgrading their offensive line instead of trading for star running back Jonathan Taylor.

The Vikings are looking for help before the NFL trade deadline, but the path they choose may say more about their cap sheet than their appetite for a splashy move.

According to ESPN insider Dan Graziano, Minnesota has been poking around the running back market, yet the team’s financial flexibility could push it toward a different kind of upgrade. That means the answer might not be Indianapolis Colts star Jonathan Taylor, even with his name floating around as a possible trade candidate.

“Minnesota has looked around at running backs, but it doesn't sound as if the Vikings are in position to take on much salary. If they make an addition to help their running game, it might just as easily be an interior offensive lineman or a blocking tight end.

And the Packers have checked in on running backs (Josh Jacobs' situation remains a major question mark) as well as offensive linemen. All four teams would occupy playoff spots if the season were to end right now, and I expect them all to be at least somewhat active.

In some cases, they'll be competing for the same players.”

That’s the key takeaway here: if Minnesota wants to juice its ground game, it may be more realistic to add blocking help than to chase a big-name back. Graziano’s report points to a Vikings team that could prefer an interior offensive lineman or a blocking tight end over taking on Taylor’s contract.

Taylor remains in the mix as a trade possibility because the Colts are in the middle of a roster shakeup and are reportedly open to offers for their franchise running back. But the price tag is the obstacle. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that leaguewide belief is Taylor could cost a second-round pick and additional compensation, while NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero said Indianapolis already turned down an offer that included a 2027 second-round selection and another draft pick.

That kind of asking price makes a cheaper route look a lot more attractive for Minnesota.

The Vikings enter this stretch at 6-1 after a 19-15 loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 8, and they’ve got another tough one right away. Buffalo, also 6-1, comes to town for Monday Night Football in Week 9, giving Minnesota a chance to bounce back against another team with postseason goals.

Indianapolis, meanwhile, is spiraling. The Colts were hammered 42-7 by the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, their fourth straight loss, and the defeat only deepened the uncertainty around the franchise after recent trades involving Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner.

With the Colts still looking for future draft capital, Taylor could remain available if the right offer comes along. Indianapolis next faces the Dallas Cowboys, who are 3-5, on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on Fox.

For the Vikings, though, the decision may come down to this: is it smarter to fix the run game by adding more muscle up front, or to pay up for another proven back before the deadline?

Colts Just Locked In A Key Defender For What Comes Next

Adetomiwa Adebawores rise has given the Colts something they can actually plan around on the defensive front. A fourth-round pick in 2023, he has steadily worked his way into a more important role, and Indianapolis has now made it clear it views him as part of the long-term core rather than just another young lineman trying to find his footing.

The extension also says plenty about where the Colts think they need to go next up front. With the defensive tackle room set for a rebuild, locking in Adebawore gives the team a dependable starting point as it reshapes the interior of the defense, and it puts more pressure on the front office to find the right pieces around him. Colts Finally Made A Move Fans Can Feel Good About

After spending much of the season looking for stability up front, the Colts have made a move that should sit well with their fan base. Indianapolis has agreed to a contract extension with defensive lineman Adetomiwa Adebawore, rewarding a player who has taken a noticeable step forward this year in both pass-rushing and run defense.

Adebawores growth has given the Colts a more encouraging piece to build around on the defensive line, especially with his improved disruption in the backfield and steadier play against the run. For a team that has spent plenty of time searching for answers, keeping a young lineman trending in the right direction is the kind of decision that can make the rest of the roster feel a little more settled. Jonathan Taylor Trade Buzz Puts Colts In A Tough Spot

The trade deadline chatter around Jonathan Taylor has put the Colts in an awkward position, with the Giants reportedly showing interest in the running back as they look to address both their offense and defensive front. New York is also exploring other playmakers and linemen, but Taylor remains a name to watch because of the kind of impact he can still bring if a deal ever gets serious.

Indianapolis, though, is not in a position to move him cheaply. The Colts are believed to be asking for a steep return, which makes any potential agreement tricky even for a team actively shopping for help. For now, the buzz says as much about the market as it does about Taylor, and it leaves the Colts balancing roster value against the possibility of a deadline move that may never get close.
