The Jonathan Taylor trade watch is officially heating up.
After spending weeks sounding reluctant to deal their star running back, the Indianapolis Colts have now shifted gears and are open to moving him before the trade deadline, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
“The Indianapolis Colts now are open to trading star running back Jonathan Taylor, sources told ESPN and NFL Network,” Schefter and Rapoport wrote on Saturday morning.
They also reported that “multiple teams have reached out to Indianapolis, and those talks are said to be active and ongoing, according to sources.”
That kind of language usually means this is more than just background noise. A deal could come together quickly, possibly after this weekend, though nothing has been confirmed yet.
The Colts’ change in approach makes plenty of sense. With a rebuild coming, they’re at least a few years from being back in the mix, and Taylor’s value may be as high as it’s going to get. If Indianapolis is going to cash in, now is the time.
Schefter and Rapoport said five teams have “expressed at least some level of interest” in Taylor: the Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants and Seattle Seahawks.
“The list of teams that have expressed at least some level of interest in trading for Taylor so far is thought to include the Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants and Seattle Seahawks, sources said,” the insiders reported.
Each team has a different level of need, but Taylor would be a major upgrade anywhere he goes. Denver already has RJ Harvey, J.K.
Dobbins and Jonah Coleman in the backfield, though none bring Taylor’s talent. The Giants may have the clearest opening, with Cam Skattebo and little else behind him.
Minnesota’s group, led by Aaron Jones and Jordan Mason, also leaves plenty to be desired.
Green Bay recently got Josh Jacobs back, but his outlook is now murky after more allegations of abuse, according to ESPN. Seattle, meanwhile, already made a big move with the Colts for Quenton Nelson and could use help at running back even with Jadarian Price set to return from injury.
Wherever Taylor ends up, the former rushing champion would immediately change the look of that backfield.

Colts Face The Same Jacksonville Trap Fans Know Too Well
The trip to Jacksonville has become one of those dates Colts fans circle with a little dread, and this one arrives with plenty on the line. Indianapolis goes there Nov. 1 facing a Jaguars team that sits atop the AFC South, with the matchup shaped by the same familiar pressure points that tend to decide these games: keeping Jacksonvilles scoring in check, finding enough production through the air and avoiding the kind of turnovers that can quickly tilt the afternoon.
The Jaguars have shown a clear formula for success when they get rolling offensively, especially when they push past 31 points and win the passing-yard battle. For the Colts, the challenge is not just about playing well enough to compete, but about finally turning a road trip that has been stubborn for years into something different, even if the path there still looks narrow. Colts Head To Jacksonville With Their Rebuild Suddenly Under A Microscope
The Colts head to Jacksonville with a rebuild suddenly under the microscope, and the timing could not be more awkward. After moving on from Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner, Indianapolis is trying to keep its focus on the field while the roster churn around it keeps the conversation centered on what comes next.
Jacksonville has been a difficult stop for the Colts for years, even though Indianapolis still leads the overall series, and this trip arrives with plenty of attention on how the team handles the present while planning for the future. With more roster questions hovering in the background, the Jaguars game is as much about performance and preparation as it is about whether the Colts can steady the narrative long enough to get through the week. Colts Reveal Their Defensive Plan After Two Major Roster Losses
The Colts added some needed defensive depth this week by elevating a pair of practice squad veterans ahead of their Week 8 meeting with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jonathan Edwards, who spent his rookie season in Indianapolis, is back in the mix at cornerback, while Carl Lawson brings a long track record as a pass rusher after stops with multiple NFL teams.
Those moves come as Indianapolis works through a stretch of roster turnover on defense, with one injury and one trade forcing the staff to reshuffle its options. The timing matters with Jacksonville on deck, and the Colts will be leaning on familiar faces to help stabilize a unit that suddenly has a little less margin for error. [Read more 🡒]
