Eagles Target Colts Coach Jim Bob Cooter for Key OC Opening

The Eagles are casting a wide net in their search for a new offensive coordinator, with Colts play-caller Jim Bob Cooter emerging as the latest name in a growing list of intriguing candidates.

The Philadelphia Eagles are casting a wide net in their search for a new offensive coordinator, and their latest target brings a familiar name with a winding NFL résumé. According to Mike Garafolo, the Eagles have formally requested an interview with Indianapolis Colts OC Jim Bob Cooter for the role.

Cooter, now 41, is no stranger to the NFL grind. He first broke into the league back in 2009 with the Colts as an offensive assistant-a full-circle moment if he ends up returning to Indy’s sidelines in Eagles green. Since then, he’s carved out a path that includes stops with the Chiefs and Broncos, before landing in Detroit in 2014 as the Lions’ quarterbacks coach.

It didn’t take long for Cooter to climb the ladder in Detroit. Midway through the 2015 season, he was promoted to offensive coordinator and held that position through the 2018 campaign. His time with the Lions featured some promising offensive stretches, particularly in the passing game with Matthew Stafford at the helm.

After Detroit, Cooter shifted gears, joining the Jets in 2019 as their running backs coach. He departed New York the following year and resurfaced in Jacksonville in 2022 as the Jaguars’ passing game coordinator. That stint helped pave the way for his current role in Indianapolis, where he was hired as offensive coordinator in 2023-his second go-around with the Colts organization.

Under Cooter’s guidance in 2025, the Colts’ offense showed real balance and productivity. They finished the season ranked ninth in total yards and eighth in points scored.

The ground game was particularly effective, ranking ninth in rushing yards, while the passing attack came in at 20th. It was a group that leaned on physicality and efficiency, even if it wasn’t lighting up the airwaves every week.

Cooter now joins a growing list of candidates in Philadelphia’s OC search. The Eagles have already interviewed Falcons OC Zac Robinson and Giants OC Mike Kafka.

Former Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski and former Commanders OC Kliff Kingsbury are also in the mix. Ole Miss offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. is expected to interview as well.

With multiple interviews already underway and more expected, the Eagles are clearly being deliberate with this hire. They’re looking for the right mind to pair with their offensive talent-and Jim Bob Cooter’s name is officially in the conversation.
