INDIANAPOLIS - Daniel Jones is back in action and ready to make waves for the Colts.
After a grueling offseason spent rehabbing a torn right Achilles tendon, Jones returned to the Colts' complex with a fresh two-year contract worth up to $100 million. The buzz around Indy is palpable, as Jones is on track to start the 2026 regular season opener.
"I'm very confident in being back to 100% and ready to go," Jones shared. "I'm in a good spot, I'm on schedule, and from everything the doctors and trainers are telling me, I've hit my marks."
Jones' return is a beacon of hope for the Colts. He exceeded expectations last season, proving his worth after a one-year deal with Indy following his release from the Giants. Leading the Colts to an 8-2 start, Jones showcased the talent that made him a first-round pick in 2019.
However, the season took a downturn when he played through a hairline fracture in his left leg and later succumbed to the Achilles injury. The Colts lost their final seven games, missing the playoffs yet again.
Despite these setbacks, the Colts never doubted bringing Jones back alongside receiver Alec Pierce for another season. Pierce recently inked a four-year, $116 million deal, choosing to stay with Jones over more lucrative offers elsewhere. Jones' new contract followed, avoiding the need for a transition tag.
General Manager Chris Ballard expressed confidence in Jones' resilience. "The way he prepares and how he's built, I think Daniel is going to be perfectly fine," Ballard stated.
"Daniel and Alec are crucial pieces. We've got a budget and a cap, but we're going to make this team the best we can."
With Jones and Pierce secured, the Colts shifted focus to bolstering their defense. Ballard traded Pro Bowl linebacker Zaire Franklin to Green Bay for defensive tackle Colby Wooden. The team also signed defensive end Arden Key from the Titans and former Jets tackle Micheal Clemons, aiming to enhance their pass rush.
As Jones and Pierce gear up for the season, the Colts are optimistic about their offensive potential. "We're confident because we've seen what we can be," Jones said. "There's a high sense of urgency to get back to that level and maintain it consistently throughout the season."
With a revamped roster and a healthy Jones at the helm, the Colts are poised for a promising season ahead.
