The Cowboys added two more bodies to the mix before Sunday’s Week 9 meeting with the Indianapolis Colts, elevating wide receiver Jordan Hudson and tight end James Mitchell from the practice squad.
The move comes as Dallas waits on a handful of offensive injury situations that could shape how the game plan looks. ESPN NFL Nation reporter Todd Archer first reported the elevations on X, noting the team’s injury concerns at receiver and tight end.
Hudson’s call-up lines up with George Pickens dealing with a hamstring injury, while KaVontae Turpin has already been ruled out because of a rib injury. Pickens is still questionable, which leaves Dallas without complete clarity at receiver heading into the weekend. If he can’t go, Hudson could be in line for his NFL debut and give Dak Prescott another option.
At tight end, Mitchell’s promotion gives the Cowboys another layer of insurance. Jake Ferguson is working through an ankle injury, and Luke Schoonmaker is dealing with a groin issue. Both Ferguson and Schoonmaker are listed as questionable, so Mitchell could be asked to help Brevyn Spann-Ford if one of them is unavailable.
The elevations don’t guarantee that Pickens or Ferguson will miss the game, but they do give Dallas some protection if either player can’t handle a full load.
That depth matters for an offense that has put up points even while the results have been uneven. The Cowboys are averaging 27.4 points per game, which ranks seventh in the NFL.
They come into Week 9 at 3-5 after a 33-30 overtime loss to Arizona, and they’ll need a sharper showing against an Indianapolis team that will put their execution to the test.
Dallas also has issues on the other side of the ball, allowing 26.6 points per game. If the injuries on offense linger, the Cowboys may need even more from the players still available.
Hudson and Mitchell may not be asked to carry much of the load. But for now, their elevations give the Cowboys a little more flexibility as kickoff approaches.

Colts Suddenly Have A Daniel Jones Decision Fans Cant Ignore
Daniel Jones has become a name to watch in Indianapolis as the NFL trade deadline approaches, with multiple reports indicating the Colts have fielded inquiries about the quarterback and are at least open to hearing what might be out there. It is a notable turn for a player whose fit and production have already been under scrutiny, and the situation now adds another layer of uncertainty to a quarterback room that seemed headed for a quieter stretch.
Jones is also said to be interested in a change of scenery, which only sharpens the intrigue around what happens next. The Vikings have been mentioned as a possible landing spot, and the connection makes some sense given Joness familiarity with their offensive scheme, but the real question is whether the Colts decide the timing is right to move on before the deadline closes the door. Colts Fans Should Be Bracing For A Stunning Sauce Gardner Twist
The Colts are heading toward the trade deadline with the kind of uncertainty that usually signals a bigger reset is coming. After a disappointing start, Indianapolis is reportedly preparing to make several moves, and cornerback Sauce Gardner is at the center of the conversation despite the fact that he was brought in as a major long-term piece and signed to a record deal just last year.
Gardners name alone would have made this a surprise, but the contract situation makes it even more complicated for the Colts. Any team interested in dealing for him would have to absorb a massive commitment, which is why this is not the kind of move that happens easily even when a front office is willing to listen. Still, with the deadline approaching and Indianapolis looking at its options, this is one storyline Colts fans will want to watch closely. [Read more 🡒]
Colts Free Agency Could End With More Familiar Names Gone
The Colts disappointing 2026 season has already pushed the roster in a different direction, with multiple key players traded before Week 8 and the organization bracing for a broader reset. With Shane Steichen and Lou Anarumo both expected to be dismissed after the poor finish, the front office is staring at another offseason of turnover, and that usually means familiar names on the fringes of the roster can disappear quickly.
A few of those decisions are already coming into focus. Akeem Davis-Gaither and Cam Taylor-Britt are both unlikely to be back, while kicker Spencer Shrader is expected to stick around as one of the few pieces with a clearer path forward. Keenan Allen also appears headed toward retirement, leaving Indianapolis to sort through what is left of a season that never really found traction and what parts of the roster are worth carrying into the next one.
