The Colts’ wide receiver room has been a problem all season, and the numbers only underline it. Five games in, Indianapolis still hasn’t found the kind of passing-game spark it expected, with Daniel Jones struggling, Alec Pierce sidelined, Josh Downs barely making an impact, and offseason pickup Keenan Allen not giving the offense the lift it needed.
That leaves the Colts sitting 29th out of 32 teams in receiver production. Pierce’s injury has stripped away the vertical element, and beyond Downs’s 249 receiving yards, there simply hasn’t been much else from the pass-catching group. The front office already tried to address the issue by bringing in Allen, but that move hasn’t produced the desired result, and the trade market is now part of the conversation.
Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. was recently linked to Indianapolis, but he was traded to the Houston Texans instead. If the Colts still want to make a move before the deadline passes, there are still a few names worth considering.
One possibility is DK Metcalf of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He’s the most intriguing name on the list, even if he also feels like the longest shot.
Metcalf has not worked out in Pittsburgh, whether that’s because of the Aaron Rodgers factor or because the fit just hasn’t been right. Still, there’s at least a scenario where the Steelers could move on after just one and a half seasons, or hold him until they find a different quarterback next year.
If they do listen, Indianapolis could chase a true No. 1 option with real No. 1 experience.
Jerry Jeudy is another name that makes sense as a trade candidate. Once viewed as a receiver with star-level upside, he’s yet to become that player.
After four years in Denver and now his third season with the Browns, Jeudy appears to be on the market because Cleveland has younger receivers in the mix. He wouldn’t transform the Colts’ offense, but he would bring a steady, veteran presence.
His production also says plenty: eight catches for 81 yards through five games.
Then there’s Kendrick Bourne of the Arizona Cardinals. If the Harrison Jr. pursuit was real, Bourne could be the fallback option.
The Cardinals’ offense has leaned heavily on Trey McBride, and Bourne would give Indianapolis an experienced depth receiver who has put together several solid seasons in that role. He’s not a headline grabber, but he has spent his career doing more than the current Colts wideout group has managed together.

Colts Already Face A New Receiver Problem After Short-Lived Move
The Colts receiver room has already taken another turn after a short-lived roster move, as the team continued looking for a way to replace the vertical element it lost when Alec Pierce went on injured reserve. Indianapolis brought in veteran help to cover that opening, but the fit never lasted long, and the club is back to sorting through its options with several wideouts still on the active roster and practice squad.
For a team still trying to stabilize its passing-game depth, the quick reversal underscores how unsettled the position remains. The Colts need speed and downfield juice, but the latest move shows they are still searching for the right answer rather than simply plugging a hole. [Read more 🡒]
Colts Face One Titans Threat That Could Ruin A Needed Reset
Tennessees slow start has turned this weeks matchup into more than just another AFC South date for the Colts. The Titans arrive at 0-5, and the conversation around them has centered on a roster still trying to find its footing, a quarterback in Cam Ward, and a pair of rookies in Carnell Tate and Anthony Hill Jr. who have offered some reasons for hope even as the bigger picture remains messy under owner Amy Adams Strunk.
For Indianapolis, the temptation is to treat this as a chance to reset after recent questions on its own side of the ball, especially with the offense built to control games in ways Tennessee has struggled to do. But the Titans still have enough pieces to make life awkward, including John Franklin-Myers up front, and the Colts know a division opponent with little to lose can turn a tidy week into an uncomfortable one in a hurry. Colts Fans Have Every Right To Question Chris Ballard Again
Alec Pierces heel injury left Indianapolis thin at one of its most explosive receiver spots, and the Colts tried to patch the hole by signing Darius Slayton. It was the kind of roster move that made sense on paper for a team trying to keep its passing game intact, especially with depth suddenly becoming a concern in a hurry.
Instead, the sequence only added to the questions around Chris Ballards recent personnel decisions. Slayton was a healthy scratch twice, then missed another game with a knee issue in practice, and the Colts moved on before he ever played a snap for them. For a front office already facing scrutiny over other roster calls, it is the sort of misfire that leaves fans wondering whether the plan was ever really solid. [Read more 🡒]
