Colts Sign Bengals Standout with Surprising Career Highlight

Colts bolster their secondary by signing former Bengals standout Cam Taylor-Britt on a prove-it deal, aiming for a strategic defensive upgrade.

The Indianapolis Colts are making waves in free agency, focusing on bolstering their secondary. Their latest addition is a talented defensive back from the Bengals, Cam Taylor-Britt, who boasts seven career interceptions. This move, reported by Tom Pelissero on X, reunites Taylor-Britt with defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo.

Taylor-Britt is joining the Colts on a one-year, prove-it deal. At just 26, he's a low-risk investment for Indianapolis, bringing experience from 38 starts in his first three NFL seasons. Drafted in the second round back in 2022, he made a splash with his interception prowess, snagging four in 2023 and three in 2024.

Beyond interceptions, Taylor-Britt is known for his knack for breaking up passes, tallying 11 in 2023 and an impressive 16 in 2024. However, his 2025 season saw some struggles, leading to a reduced role with the Bengals. He started all 17 games in 2024 but was limited to just two starts last year due to a Lisfranc injury suffered against the Steelers in Week 11.

The Colts' cornerback room is now bustling with talent, setting the stage for intense competition in training camp. Sauce Gardner and Charvarius Ward are expected to lead the charge, with a strong supporting cast including Kenny Moore II, Justin Walley, Mekhi Blackmon, Johnathan Edwards, Jaylon Jones, and Wyett Ekeler.

Adding another layer of intrigue, the Colts have shown interest in Indiana cornerback D’Angelo Ponds for their first pick at No. 47 overall, according to a mock draft by Luke Easterling of Athlon Sports. However, other projections suggest they might target a linebacker like Cincinnati’s Jake Golday or Texas’ Anthony Hill, or even a wide receiver such as Alabama’s Germie Bernard or Georgia State’s Ted Hurst.

As the Colts continue to shape their roster, the competition and strategic choices in the draft will be key to their success in the upcoming season.
