Colts Put Jonathan Taylor Trade On Hold For One Huge Reason

As trade talks heat up, the Colts hold firm on their demands for Jonathan Taylor, setting a high bar for any potential suitors.

The Indianapolis Colts are listening on Jonathan Taylor, but they’re not moving him for just anything.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Colts have made it clear they want a “Christian McCaffrey-type package” for their star running back, and that price tag has kept a deal from getting done. Rapoport said Wednesday, “Where we’re at is essentially where we’ve been, which is several teams interested in Taylor, willing to offer a significant pick package but maybe not quite what Ed Dodds, who is running personnel now … what he wants and what the organization wants,” Rapoport reported Wednesday.

“They want a Christian McCaffrey-type package for Jonathan Taylor. It’s clear they don’t have it yet; otherwise, they would have obviously made the trade.”

That stance appears to be why Indianapolis turned away the Giants. New York reportedly put a 2027 2nd-round pick, a 2027 6th-round pick, and a 2028 2nd-round pick on the table, but the Colts declined.

Taylor is one of the biggest names still in play as the November 10, 2026 trade deadline approaches, and Indianapolis has already shown it’s willing to reshape the roster. The team has reportedly taken “plenty of calls” on multiple players, including Taylor, after dealing left guard Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks for a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick. The Colts also sent defensive tackle DeForest Buckner to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2027 fourth-round pick.

The front office picture has changed too. Indianapolis has parted ways with general manager Chris Ballard, ending his run after nine seasons.

What’s left is a team in the middle of a real-time rebuild, with Taylor looking like the next major domino. The Colts were a Super Bowl contender just last year, but an injury to Daniel Jones changed everything.

Now in 2026, Jones is playing terribly and the team is bad. Taylor’s future remains unresolved, with interest around the league and no deal close enough yet to meet Indianapolis’ asking price.

Colts Trade Deadline Could Open A Bigger Role For One Young Playmaker

With the NFL trade deadline drawing closer, the Colts find themselves in the same waiting game facing a lot of teams around the league: if a veteran moves out, a younger player may suddenly inherit a much bigger slice of the offense. That is the kind of ripple effect that makes this time of year so intriguing, especially for clubs trying to balance immediate expectations with the need to see what they have in their younger talent.

One of the names to watch in that conversation is Seth McGowan, who could be positioned for a larger role if the Colts make a move that changes the depth chart in front of him. For now, it remains a speculative setup rather than a certainty, but that is exactly what gives the deadline its edge for Indianapolis, where a single transaction could quickly alter the path for a young playmaker waiting for his chance. Anthony Richardson Just Got One Last Chance To Change Everything

Anthony Richardson is back on the field this season after recovering from the orbital fracture that sidelined him, and the former No. 4 pick has made it clear how much the chance to play again has meant to him. Even with the uncertainty that followed the injury, Richardson has taken the field with a sense of gratitude, trying to make the most of an opportunity that once looked far from guaranteed.

For the Colts, though, the bigger picture still hangs over every snap. The team has not fully committed to Richardson as its long-term answer, which leaves his future as unsettled as ever even as he works to reestablish himself. After all the promise, the injury, and the questions that followed, this season feels like a crucial stretch for Richardson to show the organization it should keep building around him. [Read more 🡒]

Colts Face A Daniel Jones Deadline Decision They Can't Avoid

Daniel Jones has become one of the more complicated names on the Colts roster as the NFL trade deadline on Nov. 10 approaches. His 2026 season has been uneven, and the conversation around him now stretches beyond the box score into the bigger questions of how Indianapolis views its quarterback room, what it is willing to absorb financially, and whether another team would even be interested in taking on the rest of his deal.

The challenge for the Colts is that moving on is not as simple as shopping a struggling passer and waiting for offers to roll in. Jones contract makes any trade difficult, and the public backing he has received from the coach only adds another layer to the decision. Indianapolis has to weigh whether patience is still the best play or whether the deadline forces a harder choice than the franchise would prefer to make. [Read more 🡒]
