The Colts are turning to a familiar veteran at tight end after their 34-22 Week 5 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, adding some depth ahead of a home game against the Tennessee Titans.
Indianapolis has promoted Pharaoh Brown from the practice squad to the active roster, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter.
“Colts are signing veteran TE Pharaoh Brown off their practice squad and onto their active roster,” Schefter posted on Tuesday afternoon.
Brown is 32 and entering his ninth season. He had most recently been with the Arizona Cardinals before returning for a second stint with the Colts. His career has taken him through seven franchises total, including several AFC stops.
Last season in Arizona, Brown caught two passes for one yard across seven games. His top season came with the New England Patriots in 2023, when he appeared in all 17 games and finished with 13 catches for 208 yards and a touchdown. He also set a career high in receptions with the Houston Texans in 2021, when he had 23, and his two touchdowns with Houston in 2020 remain his best mark in that category.
Brown is expected to back up Colts 2025 first-rounder Tyler Warren, but he gives the team another option in the tight end room at Lucas Oil Stadium. Even with the limited usage in Arizona last year, Brown had played in 13 or more games in each of the five seasons before 2025. If he becomes a reliable target for Daniel Jones, Indianapolis could get more production out of the veteran than most would expect.

Jeff Saturday Shared The Colts Title Memory Fans Will Love
Jeff Saturday spent 13 seasons anchoring the middle of the Colts' line and became one of the defining figures of that Super Bowl XLI run, so when he looks back on the championship, it is not hard to understand which memories still stand out. The former five-time Pro Bowler recently revisited that title season, and his favorite recollection had less to do with the football itself than the family moment that followed once the celebration spilled beyond the field.
Saturday pointed to the postgame scene with his entire family gathered after the win, a snapshot that captured what the ring meant away from the locker room noise. The story also came with a lighter family twist involving his young son and an Xbox game, a detail that has the kind of charm fans tend to remember just as fondly as the trophy itself, especially with another Super Bowl broadcast scheduled for WRTV on Feb. 14. Spencer Shrader Put Colts History In Play Even In A Loss
Even in a loss to the Steelers, there were a few Colts performances worth circling for reasons beyond the final score. Spencer Shrader handled the kicking duties cleanly, converting every field goal and extra point he tried, and Tyler Warren continued building an impressive early rsum with another game that put him alongside some notable franchise company at tight end.
Akeem Davis-Gaither also kept showing up around the ball, finishing with seven tackles for the fifth straight game in which he reached that mark. Still, Shraders night stood out most because of how much of the offense he accounted for in a game where Indianapolis had to lean on every point it could find, and there was a larger piece of team history hanging in the background as the Colts tried to salvage something from an otherwise frustrating result. Colts Have A Real Chance To Rebound But One Problem Lingers
The Colts head into Week 6 with a chance to steady themselves against a Titans team that has not found its footing offensively, and the matchup on paper gives Indianapolis a real path back to .500. Tennessee has spent much of the early season searching for answers under center, with Cam Wards struggles continuing to shape the conversation around the franchise as the season moves along.
Indianapolis, though, is not walking into a clean fix-all game. Even with the Colts installed as a touchdown favorite, there is still a lingering issue on the other side of the ball, and it is one that could keep this from being a simple rebound opportunity. If the Colts are going to take advantage of a vulnerable division opponent, they will need to be sharper than they have been in some recent defensive outings. [Read more 🡒]
