INDIANAPOLIS - The Colts’ Dynamic Duo: Daniel Jones and Alec Pierce
As the NFL offseason heats up, all eyes in Indianapolis are on Daniel Jones and Alec Pierce. These two have become the cornerstone of the Colts' strategy moving forward, and General Manager Chris Ballard is keen on keeping them in the fold.
Jones and Pierce are potential game-changers in the free-agent market, but Ballard is optimistic about securing new contracts for both. With the NFL scouting combine underway, the Colts are working diligently to ensure these key players remain in Indianapolis.
“I’ve had great discussions with both of them,” Ballard shared. “We’ll continue to work this week and see if we can get something done.
It’s been very positive. When both sides are driven to get it done, it usually works out in the right way.”
The looming deadline for using the franchise tag is March 3, and if the Colts can ink deals with either player before then, it opens up strategic options. While Ballard has only used the franchise tag once before-famously tagging Michael Pittman Jr. while he was abroad-it's a tool in the arsenal if necessary.
Jones has made his intentions clear, expressing a strong desire to stay with the Colts. Pierce, while open to exploring options, acknowledges the advantage of having Jones back in the mix. Their chemistry, forged last summer, has been a significant asset, especially with Jones stepping up as a first-year quarterback.
Pierce, hailing from Cincinnati, has emerged as one of the NFL’s premier deep threats, adding an explosive element to the Colts’ offense that was evident early in the season.
“Daniel and Alec are such big pieces,” Ballard emphasized. “We move and fit from there.”
As the Colts navigate this critical offseason, retaining Jones and Pierce could set the stage for a promising future in Indianapolis.
