Colts Fans Can Finally Cross One Trade Rumor Off The List

Despite growing speculation, the Indianapolis Colts are not in the running for Marvin Harrison Jr., even as the Arizona Cardinals work on finalizing a trade for the wide receiver.

The Marvin Harrison Jr. trade chatter that briefly put the Colts in the middle of the conversation has been cleared up, at least for now.

As Indianapolis gets ready to face Pittsburgh in Week 5, ESPN’s Stephen Holder reported that the Colts are not the team working on a deal for the Arizona Cardinals wide receiver. That came after NFL insider Adam Schefter said Saturday that the Cardinals “are finalizing a deal” to trade Harrison, though he did not identify the destination.

“It’s NOT the Colts, per source. Cardinals were asking for a second-round choice and more.

Wow,” Holder wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “Indy was legitimately interested.

I cannot say what their price would have been, but they were willing at the right compensation.”

Schefter later added that Arizona expects a trade for Harrison to happen, but not until after Sunday’s games, since the receiver is inactive for the Cardinals’ matchup with the Steelers.

Even with Indianapolis ruled out, the Colts had been a natural target for speculation. Harrison’s father, Marvin Harrison Sr., played in Indianapolis, and ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler had already labeled the Colts a “team to watch” for Harrison.

“Perhaps there's not a splash move that fits, but how about one that brings an upside receiver for a quality Day 3 pick? (The Sauce Gardner trade last year drained Indy's capital.)

Marvin Harrison Jr. would be an obvious fit - and not just for sentimentality - but Arizona won't just give him away. A midseason return from Alec Pierce could assuage the need to make a move,” Fowler wrote.

Schefter has also tied the Houston Texans to Harrison, though the landing spot still isn’t settled.

Through four games, Harrison has five catches for 85 yards and a touchdown.

For the Colts, the attention now shifts to Sunday afternoon and their meeting with the Steelers. Indianapolis enters the game at 2-2.

Colts Get A Huge Chance To Change The Pittsburgh Narrative

Both the Colts and Steelers come into this matchup at 2-2, which gives Sundays meeting more weight than a typical early-season game. It is the kind of October test that can start shaping the playoff conversation, especially for Indianapolis, which has spent too much of recent history watching Pittsburgh control the tone of the matchup. The Steelers won the previous meeting, and the backdrop includes the same kind of physical, defense-heavy football that has defined so many games between these teams.

Indianapolis has reasons to believe this is a better chance than most to flip the script. The Colts have been efficient when drives get near the goal line and have held up well on key defensive downs, while their overall defensive rankings suggest they can make this a tougher game than Pittsburgh might expect. The Steelers still lean on their rushing game and have shown enough defensive bite to keep opponents uncomfortable, so this does not look like a clean path for the Colts. Even so, with the standings tight and the history in the building working against them, this feels like the sort of game Indianapolis needs to seize if it wants the conversation around this rivalry to change. Jonathan Taylor Could Be At Center Of A Huge Colts Test

Rain is in the forecast for the Colts trip to Pittsburgh, and that alone changes the feel of a game that already figures to lean physical at Acrisure Stadium. Shane Steichen has been adjusting practice for wet conditions, and with center Tanor Bortolini expected to play through a recent ankle issue, Indianapolis is trying to make sure its offensive front is ready for a sloppy afternoon.

Jonathan Taylor sits at the center of that equation. The weather could push the Colts toward a heavier dose of the run game, which puts even more pressure on Taylor to carry the offense and steady things if the passing game gets harder to trust. He has already found the end zone plenty this season, but the bigger question now is whether this is the kind of game where Indianapolis can finally keep feeding him enough to tilt the matchup. Colts Fans Have Every Right To Watch Sauce Gardner Closely Now

The Colts have spent enough time watching Sauce Gardner since his arrival to know there will be a spotlight on every snap, and Week 4 only sharpened it. Against the Commanders, Gardner was candid about his own play, acknowledging that his effort was lacking at times, particularly when it came to the run game, and that kind of self-assessment lands differently when a player of his caliber is expected to anchor the defense.

Gardners response matters because Indianapolis does not need a long explanation of what he brings when he is right, only a reminder that consistency is part of the job. He said the effort he showed in that game is not who he is, and with the Colts trying to build around his presence, the next stretch will tell whether that was a one-game lapse or something the defense has to keep monitoring closely.
