Colts Face One Titans Threat That Could Ruin A Needed Reset

As the Colts aim to capitalize on the Titans' winless streak, questions linger about Tennessee's leadership and promising rookie performances.

The Colts head into Sunday needing to clean up their own mess, but the contrast in records makes the assignment pretty clear. Indianapolis sits at 2-3 after a two-game winning streak was snapped by a disappointing road loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Tennessee is still searching for its first win at 0-5, and that makes this matchup feel urgent for both sides, just in different ways.

For Indianapolis, this is the kind of game you have to win if you expect to be taken seriously. For Tennessee, it looks like one of the better chances left to finally get in the win column. The big question hanging over the week: can an inconsistent Colts defense give Cam Ward and the Titans enough breathing room to make things interesting?

Ward is carrying plenty of the blame for Tennessee’s start, at least according to one Titans expert. It’s hard not to place the lion’s share of the blame on Cam Ward’s shoulders at this point. He’s had different head coaches, different play callers, and the team spent money on several key offensive positions in the offseason to help him succeed.

The issue, though, goes beyond a few bad throws or one rough outing. The concern is the lack of forward movement. Ward has taken a step backward from his rookie campaign in 2025, and the offense is reaching indefensible levels of inefficiency for a team led by a former No. 1 overall pick.

There has been at least one bright spot in Tennessee’s early season: the rookie class. Through five weeks of the 2026 season, the young players have given Titans fans something to hold onto.

Carnell Tate has been up and down, and that has a lot to do with the offense around him, but he’s already flashed the kind of production that can make him the leading receiver in this group. His 145-yard game in a Week 4 loss to the Ravens showed exactly what he can bring.

Anthony Hill Jr. has been just as notable in a different way. He’s piled up 47 tackles through five weeks, which ranks sixth in football, and he’s been better in coverage than many expected after college.

Nationally, the Titans are often discussed through the usual lenses: quarterback, coach, general manager. But the larger problem, according to the source here, starts higher up.

Tennessee’s organizational issues start at the top. The attention nationally will always go to the head coach, quarterback, and general manager, but Amy Adams Strunk has made nearly every wrong decision over the last five years.

That’s part of why the franchise has changed so much in the wrong direction. Under her leadership, the Titans have gone from a perennial playoff contender to one of the worst-run organizations in professional sports. Until there’s more accountability at the ownership level, changing coaches, quarterbacks, or general managers won’t fix the real problem.

On the defensive front, one name that matters more than it gets talked about is John Franklin-Myers. He got a $63 million deal from the Titans this offseason, and Robert Saleh imagined Franklin-Myers and Jeffery Simmons forming a disruptive duo up front.

That pairing has not yet fully taken over, but Franklin-Myers remains important. He has 1.5 sacks so far and is expected to play Sunday against the Colts. While Simmons tends to draw the headlines, Franklin-Myers is a major reason Tennessee’s defense can function the way Saleh planned.

There is at least one area where Indianapolis clearly holds the edge. Tennessee has struggled badly with time of possession, while the Colts have shown they can keep drives alive. Indianapolis is averaging 24.8 points per game and more than 31 minutes of possession, a combination that gives them a real advantage in this matchup.

Colts Suddenly Face A Receiver Question Before The Trade Deadline

The Colts went into the season expecting more from their receiver room after signing Keenan Allen in the offseason, but the group has been held back by injuries and underperformance and now sits near the bottom of the league. For a team trying to keep pace in a competitive stretch, the lack of reliable production out wide has turned into a problem that cannot be ignored for long.

With the trade deadline approaching, Indianapolis is at least exploring the possibility of adding help at wide receiver. The search has already sparked plenty of speculation around the league, and while the Colts have not confirmed any move, the fact that they are being linked to this market says plenty about how urgent the need has become. Colts Already Face A New Receiver Problem After Short-Lived Move

The Colts receiver room has already taken another turn after a short-lived roster move, as the team continued looking for a way to replace the vertical element it lost when Alec Pierce went on injured reserve. Indianapolis brought in veteran help to cover that opening, but the fit never lasted long, and the club is back to sorting through its options with several wideouts still on the active roster and practice squad.

For a team still trying to stabilize its passing-game depth, the quick reversal underscores how unsettled the position remains. The Colts need speed and downfield juice, but the latest move shows they are still searching for the right answer rather than simply plugging a hole. [Read more 🡒]

Colts Fans Have Every Right To Question Chris Ballard Again

Alec Pierces heel injury left Indianapolis thin at one of its most explosive receiver spots, and the Colts tried to patch the hole by signing Darius Slayton. It was the kind of roster move that made sense on paper for a team trying to keep its passing game intact, especially with depth suddenly becoming a concern in a hurry.

Instead, the sequence only added to the questions around Chris Ballards recent personnel decisions. Slayton was a healthy scratch twice, then missed another game with a knee issue in practice, and the Colts moved on before he ever played a snap for them. For a front office already facing scrutiny over other roster calls, it is the sort of misfire that leaves fans wondering whether the plan was ever really solid. [Read more 🡒]
