Colts Eye Top-20 Talent in Second-Round Draft Shocker

Despite lacking a first-round pick, the Colts might strike gold with Chris Bell, a once top-20 prospect now poised for a mid-second round comeback.

The Indianapolis Colts have been keeping things relatively low-key this offseason, focusing on securing Alec Pierce and Daniel Jones. With their first-round pick gone due to the Sauce Gardner trade, the Colts' roster might not see major changes from last season.

But don't count them out just yet. Even without a pick in the top 32, the Colts have a chance to snag a potential star on Day 2 of the draft.

Louisville's standout wide receiver, Chris Bell, could be just the ticket. Despite a season-ending ACL injury, Bell is reportedly ahead of schedule in his recovery, making him an intriguing prospect for teams willing to take a chance.

Bell, a 6-foot-2, 225-pound powerhouse, was once considered a top-20 pick. His speed, projected to be sub-4.3 in the 40-yard dash, and his physicality make him a tantalizing option.

Though some teams might hesitate due to his injury, the depth of this wide receiver class could allow Bell to fall right into the Colts' hands at pick No. 47.

The Colts, having traded Michael Pittman Jr., brought in Nick Westbrook-Ikhine from the Miami Dolphins. However, with only 11 receptions for 89 yards last season, Westbrook-Ikhine might not be a game-changer. Alec Pierce remains their deep threat, but beyond him and Josh Downs, the receiving corps could use a boost.

Bell's college stats are impressive: 5.2 yards after the catch per reception, 2.55 yards per route run, and a mere 4 percent drop rate. He forced nine missed tackles and boasted a contested catch rate of 50 percent. Quarterbacks targeting him enjoyed a passer rating of 109.7, with Bell averaging 12.7 yards per reception.

While injuries always pose a risk, Bell's overall durability and explosive traits make him a worthy gamble in the second round. The draft is all about finding value, and if Bell lives up to his potential, he could be one of 2026's biggest steals, especially for a team like the Colts, who are looking to make the most of their picks.
