Colts Enter Vikings Test With Key Absences In Spots That Matter Most

As the Colts face the unbeaten Vikings, they battle a string of injuries that leaves key positions reshuffled on their Week 7 gameday roster.

The Colts walked into Sunday’s matchup against the Vikings already shorthanded, and the inactive list only confirmed how thin things are. Indianapolis ruled out seven players for the game, including key names on both sides of the ball, while cornerback Justin Walley was available after sitting in the questionable window.

The biggest blowouts on the list came before kickoff. Linebacker CJ Allen was out with an ankle injury, Sauce Gardner missed the game because of a calf issue, return specialist Anthony Gould was sidelined with a concussion, and tight end Tyler Warren was unavailable again.

Bryce Boettcher, who had been questionable with a groin injury, was made inactive as well. The Colts also listed quarterback Riley Leonard as the emergency QB3, along with interior offensive lineman Dalton Tucker.

Here is the full Indianapolis inactive group:

  • LB CJ Allen (ankle)
  • LB Bryce Boettcher (groin)
  • CB Sauce Gardner (calf)
  • WR Anthony Gould (concussion)
  • QB Riley Leonard (emergency QB3)
  • IOL Dalton Tucker
  • TE Tyler Warren (groin)

With Allen and Boettcher both out, Jaylon Carlies is expected back in the mix at WILL linebacker next to MIKE Akeem Davis-Gaither. Carlies has missed the last two weeks with a rib injury, and Germaine Pratt along with Austin Ajiake should also see more work.

At corner, Cam Taylor-Britt is the likeliest option to start in Gardner’s spot, just as he did when Gardner left the game last week. If needed, Walley could slide into Gardner’s role and Taylor-Britt could take over Walley’s nickel duties.

Tight end remains unsettled with Warren out for a second straight week. Will Mallory is set to handle the primary pass-catching role, with Mo Alie-Cox, Drew Ogletree, and Pharaoh Brown rotating in behind him.

Gould’s absence matters on special teams and in the passing game, though Ashton Dulin is back after missing the last two games with a hamstring injury.

Minnesota’s inactive list was much shorter:

  • QB Max Brosmer
  • RB Demond Claiborne
  • CB Chuck Demmings
  • S Jakobe Thomas
  • OT Caleb Tiernan
  • DL Elijah Williams

The Vikings entered the day in clean shape injury-wise, with no injury designations and running back Jordan Mason returning from Injured Reserve this week.

Peyton Manning Just Sent A Clear Message About The Colts

The Colts decision to move on from Chris Ballard after a disappointing start immediately turned attention to the biggest name in franchise history, and Peyton Mannings name naturally surfaced as fans began wondering what kind of outsider could help shape the next era. Even with the front office vacancy creating plenty of speculation, the team has not made a move toward its former quarterback, and there is no indication that a reunion in that specific role is part of the immediate plan.

Mannings stance also makes the picture a little clearer for now. He is not looking to jump into an NFL front office job at this point, even as he has left the door open to future opportunities in the league if the right situation comes along. For the Colts, that means the search for a new direction remains in the hands of ownership and the people around it, without the easy headline answer many would have assumed was available. Colts Fans Are Boiling Over Shane Steichens Daniel Jones Stance

The Colts latest loss to Minnesota left the club sitting at 2-5, and the frustration around the building only deepened afterward. With the recent firing of general manager Chris Ballard already signaling a major shakeup, attention quickly turned to how the team would handle the quarterback position after another rough outing.

Shane Steichen offered a clear answer, saying he is sticking with Daniel Jones for now and still believes in him despite what happened on the field. Fans did not take the message lightly, especially after Jones was bottled up throughout the game and the offense again looked stuck, leaving the coachs patience as one of the biggest talking points around Indianapolis. Anthony Richardson Just Added To The Colts Biggest Uncertainty

The Colts already have enough questions swirling around their quarterback room, and Anthony Richardson Sr. has now added an off-field one to the mix. The backup quarterback was charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession after a traffic stop in Carmel, Indiana, a development that immediately put the team in the uncomfortable position of having to wait and gather information while the legal process plays out.

Richardson briefly addressed the incident and framed it as an ongoing legal matter, while the Colts acknowledged the situation and said they were still working through the details. Any potential league discipline is expected to come later, after the legal case is resolved, leaving Indianapolis with another layer of uncertainty around a player whose status has already been one of the franchise's most closely watched storylines.
