Adelaide Galbreath Named Inaugural Colts High School Woman of the Year
In a milestone moment for girls flag football in Indiana, Adelaide Galbreath of Cardinal Ritter High School has been named the first-ever Colts High School Woman of the Year. It’s a well-deserved honor for a student-athlete who’s been a force both on the field and in her community.
The award, created by the Indianapolis Colts, shines a spotlight on a high school girls flag football player who embodies leadership, character, and teamwork-qualities that go well beyond the stat sheet. Junior and senior athletes from across the state were nominated by school and team officials, and a Colts panel evaluated each candidate based on football performance, academic success, and community involvement. Galbreath checked every box.
As the captain of Cardinal Ritter’s inaugural girls flag football team, Galbreath didn’t just lead-she set the tone. Playing quarterback on offense and locking down receivers as a cornerback on defense, she averaged one interception and six flag pulls per game.
For a first-year program, having a two-way player like Galbreath anchoring both sides of the ball was a game-changer. Her presence gave the Lady Raiders instant credibility and competitive edge in their debut season.
But what makes Galbreath’s recognition even more impressive is what she does when the cleats come off. She’s deeply involved in community service, volunteering with organizations like St.
Susanna Church, the Sustainable Meals Initiative, the Gift Kindness Program, and the Plainfield Optimist Club. She’s also active in Ritter’s Latin Club-balancing academics, athletics, and service with the kind of poise that speaks volumes about her leadership.
“Addie represents the very best of what high school students can achieve when they combine academic excellence with genuine service to others,” said Ritter head coach Leo-Anthony Ortiz. “She not only has excelled in multiple areas but has done so while maintaining a spirit of service and dedication to lifting others up. Her combination of athletic excellence, academic achievement, community service and natural leadership abilities positions her as someone who will continue to make significant contributions to whatever community she joins next.”
The Colts will recognize Galbreath during their December 28 game against the Tennessee Titans. She’ll receive a commemorative plaque, game tickets, and a $2,500 donation from the Colts Foundation to the nonprofit of her choice-a fitting tribute to someone who’s already giving back in so many ways.
Football might be the platform, but for Adelaide Galbreath, it’s clear the impact goes far beyond the field.
