Anthony Richardson's journey through his first three NFL seasons has been anything but smooth, and it's safe to say that neither he nor the Colts envisioned this path. Drafted as the No. 4 overall pick in 2023, Richardson's career hit a snag with a freak pregame accident in 2025, leading to an orbital fracture that sidelined him for most of the season. However, there's a silver lining: Richardson is expected to be ready for the Colts' offseason program come April.
General Manager Chris Ballard shared positive updates during his scouting combine press conference, expressing optimism about Richardson's recovery. "He’s getting better," Ballard stated. "He’s been cleared to play football."
Ballard didn't hold back his admiration for Richardson, highlighting his resilience and character. "I’m proud of him.
Here’s a guy who’s faced a lot of injury challenges. Despite the unfortunate eye accident and not winning the starting job to Daniel [Jones], Anthony's been a fantastic teammate.
He’s positive and committed to doing the right things. It's trending in the right direction."
Richardson's 2025 season was limited to just two brief appearances, totaling 14 offensive snaps. With the Colts likely to decline his fifth-year option this spring, questions about his future in Indianapolis linger.
Yet, Ballard remains hopeful. "I see a future, yeah," he said.
"With any player, you never know what’s going to happen. But, yeah.
We like Anthony."
Richardson's journey is a testament to perseverance, and as he gears up for a fresh start, both he and the Colts are looking to turn the page and embrace what lies ahead.
