Tyrese Haliburton Had An Immediate Reaction To Jalen Williams Scare

In a show of solidarity and empathy, Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton reaches out to Jalen Williams following a distressing injury during the Thunder's clash with the Clippers.

Tyrese Haliburton didn’t wait long to reach out after Jalen Williams went down Sunday night.

The Indiana Pacers guard, who has lived through the kind of injury nightmare that changes a season in an instant, posted a brief message on X after the Oklahoma City Thunder forward was stretchered off the floor.

“JDub 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼,” Haliburton wrote.

Williams’ injury came with a little more than a minute left in Oklahoma City’s 108-101 win over the Los Angeles Clippers at Paycom Center. He attacked the basket, got caught in the air by Kris Dunn and Derrick Jones Jr., and then landed awkwardly with his left leg pinned underneath him.

The scene turned tense immediately. Thunder trainers put a towel over Williams’ lower leg while teammates stood nearby in silence.

He eventually left on a stretcher and gave the home crowd a thumbs up as he was taken to the locker room. Dunn was called for a Flagrant 1 foul on the play.

Oklahoma City has not announced a diagnosis. After the game, head coach Mark Daigneault stopped short of offering details.

“We’re not doing great. That’s tough on the guys,” Daigneault said, per CBS Sports.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander also struggled to hold it together when discussing his teammate.

“I just feel bad for him. Nothing more than that,” he said.

Haliburton’s reaction hits harder because he knows this road. The Pacers star tore his right Achilles tendon in Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals against the Thunder and missed the entire 2025-26 season while recovering. In that series, Williams averaged 23.6 points and dropped 40 in Game 5.

Williams, a 2025 All-Star and All-NBA Third Team selection, has had his own run of setbacks, too. He underwent wrist surgery after the 2025 title run and then dealt with hamstring injuries throughout last season, including in the playoffs.

Now the Thunder, and the rest of the league, are waiting for word on Williams’ status. Based on the way the injury unfolded, Oklahoma City may be bracing for a long stretch without one of its most important players.

Ben Sheppard Injury Puts A Crucial Pacers Decision On Hold

Ben Sheppards setback lands at a difficult moment for both the guard and the Pacers. The 2023 first-round pick had been trying to carve out a steadier place in the rotation, but roster changes and competition had already limited his chances to show what he can do. Now, with a torn meniscus in his left knee, his progress is on pause at the very time Indiana had reason to keep evaluating what kind of long-term fit he could become.

The injury is expected to keep Sheppard out for several months and could end his season before it really gets going. For a Pacers team that has been sorting through the back end of its roster, the timing matters because it takes one more developmental option off the board while leaving his future role unresolved. Indiana still has decisions to make about what Sheppard can be for this team, but for now the conversation is about recovery rather than opportunity. [Read more 🡒]

Pacers Finally Looked Like Themselves Even As One Concern Lingered

After a sluggish opening, the Pacers settled in and spent the final 36 minutes looking far more like the group that has defined them this season. Indiana rolled past Brooklyn over that stretch, with the offense humming through crisp ball movement and a lineup that kept finding answers even after the game took an early turn with a starting big man leaving because of an ankle sprain.

The point guard drove the attack with 24 points and 10 assists, while a forward added 14 efficient points as the Pacers piled up 34 assists on 49 made baskets. The rotation adjusted smoothly after the injury, and the larger question now is how Indiana manages the concern around that big man after a night when everything else finally clicked into place. Pacers Face A Familiar Problem In Brooklyn Tonight

The Pacers head into Brooklyn looking to steady themselves after a disappointing home opener, and the matchup offers a quick chance to reset against a Nets team still trying to find its footing under Jordi Fernandez. Brooklyn comes in off a narrow loss to the Cavaliers, but there is plenty of talent on a young roster that is still developing and learning how to close out games.

Indiana also knows this is not a comfortable spot on the schedule, especially with Michael Porter Jr. and Julius Randle in the mix after both have given the Pacers problems before. For Indiana, the bigger concern may be starting faster and getting more from the bench, two areas that can decide whether this turns into a clean bounce-back or another night of chasing the game.
