T.J. McConnell Earns Rare NBA Recognition

Pacers' guard T.J. McConnell earns recognition for his exemplary conduct on the court, joining a prestigious group of NBA stars as a finalist for the Sportsmanship Award.

In Indianapolis, the Pacers' seasoned point guard T.J. McConnell has been named one of six finalists for the prestigious NBA Sportsmanship Award for the 2025-26 season. This announcement came through the league's social media channels on Tuesday, highlighting McConnell's commendable presence both on and off the court.

At 34, McConnell continues to be a steady force in his 11th NBA season, posting averages of 9.4 points, 5.1 assists, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game, with an impressive shooting percentage of 53.8% from the field. His consistent performance and leadership make him a standout candidate for this honor.

Joining McConnell as finalists are some of the league's top talents: Thunder's star point guard and reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Heat's All-Star center Bam Adebayo, Warriors' veteran center Al Horford, Celtics' experienced guard Derrick White, and Spurs' forward Harrison Barnes. Each finalist was selected to represent one of the NBA's divisions, with McConnell representing the Eastern Conference's Central Division.

The NBA Sportsmanship Award is determined by a vote among current NBA players and celebrates the individual who exemplifies the highest ideals of sportsmanship on the court. This recognition underscores the importance of integrity and respect in the game.

Reflecting on the nomination, McConnell expressed his gratitude, saying, "Obviously it feels good. I try to go about things the right way on and off the court. So very appreciative, and the other guys on there are great players and good people as well."

With this acknowledgment, McConnell continues to set a high standard for professionalism and sportsmanship, embodying the qualities that make basketball not just a game, but a platform for positive influence.
