Pacers Just Revived A Look That Will Hit Fans Right In The Past

In a nod to their rich ABA history, four NBA teams debut classic edition uniforms and courts to kick off the league's 50th anniversary celebration of the historic merger.

Fifty years after the NBA absorbed four ABA franchises, the league is leaning hard into the anniversary with a fresh batch of classic edition uniforms and courts for the Spurs, Pacers, Nuggets and Nets.

The timing fits neatly with the upcoming season-long celebration of the merger, which brought San Antonio, Indiana, New York and Denver into the NBA in 1976. The Kentucky Colonels and Spirits of St.

Louis were left out as the remaining ABA teams folded, and their players were sent into a dispersal draft. Half a century later, the four surviving franchises are still here, and now they’ve all unveiled new looks built around that shared history.

The best of the bunch might be Brooklyn’s, even if calling them the Brooklyn Nets in this uniform feels a little off. The red, white and blue styling pulls straight from the franchise’s ABA era and gives the whole package a sharp, clean finish. The team even carried the tri-color basketball motif into its current Brooklyn branding across social profiles as part of the reveal, tying the throwback to the present without losing the retro feel.

Indiana is right there with them. The Pacers already have the cleanest historical bridge of the group since the name never changed, and the new classic look hits all the right notes, from the logo to the yellow racing stripe down the jersey.

The court gets a nice touch too, with an outline of the ABA championship trophy at center court honoring the franchise that won the most titles in the defunct league. The Pacers took three ABA crowns overall, including back-to-back championships in 1972 and ’73 in this road look.

San Antonio went a different route, settling on a black, silver and white design that nods more to the Spurs’ current identity than their old ABA origins as the Texas Chaparrals in Dallas. The result is strong, especially with the trim along the jerseys and shorts, and the matching court adds its own personality with a tribute to the floor at the demolished Hemisfair Arena. A Chaparrals look would have been the curveball, but the franchise clearly leaned into the uniform that connects most naturally to its San Antonio era.

Denver’s version is the most striking departure. The Nuggets’ classic uniforms go completely away from the team’s usual palette in favor of a look that honors the franchise’s original name, the Denver Rockets.

That name changed to Nuggets in 1974 ahead of the NBA move because the Houston Rockets already had the name, and this throwback turns that history into a full visual reset. It may not be the flashiest uniform on first glance, but it does the job if the mission is to make the ABA roots impossible to miss.

The result is a strong anniversary slate overall, with each team tapping into a different piece of its past. And if nothing else, these jerseys should create a few memories down the road - the kind where fans look back and remember when Nikola Jokić wore an orange jersey, or when the old ABA look made its way back onto NBA courts for a season.

Tyrese Haliburton Already Has Pacers Fans Worried About One Big Thing

Tyrese Haliburtons night off in Atlanta was enough to stir some unease around the Pacers, even if the bigger picture still looks calm. He sat out Indianas preseason game against the Hawks because of a tweaked ankle, another reminder of how closely this teams fortunes are tied to its star guard after his recovery from the Achilles tear he suffered in the 2024-25 NBA Finals.

For a team built around Haliburtons pace, passing and shot-making, even a minor setback tends to draw attention. The ankle issue is being described as minor, but it arrives at a time when every preseason note about his health carries extra weight for Indiana, and it leaves fans watching closely as the Pacers try to get through October with their most important player staying on track. Pacers Still Have The One Problem Fans Thought Was Fixed

The Pacers second preseason game offered a familiar sort of reminder, even in a tight 119-117 loss to the Hawks. Indiana came out with an early lead, then faded in the third quarter and never quite found its footing again, all while keeping the workload light and not playing anyone more than 20 minutes. For a team trying to use October to smooth out its edges, the result was less important than the way the game unfolded.

Even after bringing in Ivica Zubac to shore up the glass, the rebound battle still looked shaky against Atlanta. Indiana did plenty of things well enough to stay close, but the possession game told the louder story, and that is the part the Pacers cannot afford to ignore for long. Jarace Walker led Indiana with seven rebounds, a small bright spot in a loss that left one of last seasons lingering concerns still hanging around. [Read more 🡒]

Tyrese Haliburton Just Became Indianas Biggest Question Again

Tyrese Haliburton is back in NBA action after missing the previous season with an Achilles tendon injury, and for the Pacers, that alone makes his return one of the most closely watched developments of the fall. Indiana has built plenty of its recent identity around Haliburtons playmaking and pace, which is why every step in his comeback carries extra weight for a team that still views him as a centerpiece. He is under a five-year extension he signed in 2023, and the franchise is still planning around him being a starter for the 2026-27 season.

What makes this next stretch so important is not just whether Haliburton can suit up again, but how quickly he can look like himself after such a serious injury. His first game back offered some encouraging signs, with his passing and defense both standing out, yet the bigger question for Indiana is what comes next as he settles back into live NBA rhythm. For a Pacers team that has invested so much in him, the answer will shape far more than one return appearance. [Read more 🡒]
