The Indiana Pacers might be one of the cleaner fits for Victor Oladipo if the veteran guard gets another NBA shot.
Oladipo is still trying to work his way back into the league, and the path has been a long one since injuries derailed what once looked like a rising run in Indiana. The ruptured quad changed everything. After that, he never really got back to full health, and before long his career had slipped away from him.
For Pacers fans, the name still carries real weight. Oladipo’s peak in Indiana came in 2017-18, when he arrived in the Paul George trade and delivered a huge season: 75 games, 23.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.4 steals per night. That was the version of Oladipo that had the Pacers looking like a team on the rise.
Across his NBA career, the 34-year-old guard has appeared in 504 games and made 397 starts. He’s averaged 16.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.6 steals while shooting 43.6 percent from the field and 34.7 percent from beyond the arc.
He recently took part in a workout run by Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Phil Handy as he continues his comeback push.
Indiana hasn’t been officially connected to Oladipo, but the basketball fit is easy to see. The Pacers’ starting group is already set, yet there’s room for another scorer off the bench, even after the addition of Kelly Oubre Jr. in free agency.
In that setup, Oladipo could back up Andrew Nembhard at shooting guard, while Oubre would move up to small forward behind Aaron Nesmith.
There’s obvious uncertainty here, of course. No one knows exactly what Oladipo would look like if he lands with a team.
But for Indiana, a training camp invite would be a low-risk swing. And if he can rediscover even part of his old form and stay on the floor, a one-year veteran minimum deal could look like a bargain.
