Colorado quarterback Julian Lewis is recovering after a medical emergency at the school’s athletic facility sent him to the hospital, according to a statement from his father, T. Carlton Lewis, posted on social media Thursday, Oct. 29.
“Yesterday, Julian experienced a medical emergency at the University of Colorado athletic facility and was promptly transported to the hospital. He is recovering and thankful to his medical team, teammates, and Colorado fans for their prayers and support.
Please respect Julian and the Lewis family's privacy. We will have no further comment at this time,” the family said.
Lewis had already been listed as “Doubtful” on Colorado’s Wednesday availability report for the Kansas State game.
Before the medical emergency, coach Deion Sanders was asked Tuesday whether Lewis would return for the rest of the season, and he didn’t offer a clear answer.
“That's on him. Great question, but that's on him,” Sanders said.
Sanders also addressed criticism that he has mishandled the quarterback situation, with Isaac Wilson taking over after the second half of the Baylor game.
“I don't treat people unfairly,” Sanders said. “I don't play games with young men and their careers or hate on folks.
If anything, I'm too forgiving. You have to understand that we may know more a little more than you do because we're inside the locker room and understands what happens including what clicks and what doesn't.
You guys on the outside think you see what goes on inside but you don't. And that's not a shot at any of you, but it's not for me to guess or assume.”
Lewis opened the season as Colorado’s starter in the first four games under Sanders and new offensive coordinator Brennan Marion. He helped the Buffaloes beat Georgia Tech and Weber State before losses to Northwestern and Baylor. Against Baylor, he started the first half before Wilson took over with Colorado trailing 10-3.
In 3.5 games this season, Lewis has thrown for 733 yards with six touchdowns and no interceptions. He has also been sacked eight times, and his rushing total sits at -45 yards with one touchdown.
A four-star recruit, Lewis originally committed to USC and coach Lincoln Riley before ending up at Colorado. He also appeared in four games as a true freshman in 2025, but the Buffaloes preserved his redshirt.
Colorado is trying to stop a five-game losing streak when it hosts Kansas State on Halloween. The game is scheduled for 12 p.m. MT on Saturday, Oct. 31, and the Buffaloes will release availability reports on Thursday and Friday, plus another 90 minutes before kickoff.

Indiana Still Has Plenty Riding On Josh Hoovers Sudden Slide
Josh Hoover arrived at Indiana with the kind of preseason buzz that turns a transfer quarterback into an instant storyline, and he opened the 2026 season looking every bit like a Heisman contender. After moving over from TCU, he came in with favorable odds and gave the Hoosiers the sort of early production that made the fit look seamless, which only added to the excitement around what Indiana could become with him steering the offense.
The last couple of marquee games have changed the conversation, though, as losses and uneven stretches against Ohio State and Michigan pushed his Heisman stock in the wrong direction. Even so, Hoover's season numbers still stack up well, and Indiana's bigger goals are very much alive with the College Football Playoff picture still in play, which means the Hoosiers have plenty riding on how quickly he steadies things from here. Indiana Fans Have One Big Week 9 Concern As Playoff Push Continues
Indiana has spent much of the 2026 season benefiting from better health than most teams, and that has been a quiet part of Curt Cignettis push toward the College Football Playoff conversation. The Big Tens Week 9 injury report is a reminder that the Hoosiers are not completely out of the woods, with receiver Davion Chandler and defensive lineman Kellan Wyatt ruled out while defensive back Quan Sanks is listed as questionable.
The bigger concern, though, sits under center with Josh Hoover. He played through an injury in the Michigan game and had a rough outing, but the expectation is that he will be available against Minnesota, which matters for an Indiana offense trying to stay on track in a critical stretch. With the playoff push continuing, the Hoosiers can only afford so many health scares before the margins get a lot tighter. [Read more 🡒]
Josh Hoover Powered Indiana Through A Michigan Moment Fans Won't Forget
Josh Hoover spent the kind of afternoon that tends to linger with a fan base long after the final whistle, playing through an undisclosed throwing arm injury and still helping Indiana grind out a 13-6 overtime win at Michigan Stadium. The quarterbacks ability to stay on the field gave the Hoosiers a steadying presence in a game that demanded patience, resilience and a little bit of grit.
Hoovers best work came when the pressure peaked in overtime, when he connected on a 21-yard pass and later finished the drive with a rushing touchdown. For Indiana, it was more than just a road win, it was the programs first victory at Michigan Stadium in 59 years, and afterward coach Curt Cignetti and teammates singled out Hoovers toughness and leadership as a big reason the moment belonged to the Hoosiers.
