New IU Bloomington Summer Update Raises Fresh Campus Safety Concerns

A concerning rise in reported sexual violence incidents sheds light on an ongoing issue at IU Bloomington and college campuses nationwide.

Indiana University Bloomington has logged 23 reports of sexual violence with the IU Police Department so far this summer, according to the IUPD Daily Log.

That total includes reports of sexual assault, rape and sexual battery. IU defines rape as the nonconsensual penetration of private body parts by an object or another person’s body part, and its definition also includes oral penetration by a sex organ of another person.

The reports come against a broader backdrop of campus sexual violence that the Indiana Daily Student has been tracking. In 2024, IUPD recorded 60 cases of sexual assault on IU Bloomington’s campus. The IDS also tracked 35 reports of sexual violence on the IUPD Daily Log in the fall 2025 semester and 23 reports in the spring 2026 semester.

June 29 brought one of the most recent entries. IUPD received a report that day from the Office of Civil Rights Compliance about an alleged sexual assault that happened June 25 at the Walnut Grove Center, IUPD Public Information Officer Hannah Cornett wrote in an email. The person involved did not report the incident to IUPD, and the case was referred to university officials for review.

A similar report came in June 15. That one also arrived through the Office of Civil Rights Compliance and involved an alleged sexual assault that occurred June 12 at Walnut Grove residence hall, Cornett wrote. Again, the individual did not report the incident to IUPD, and university officials are reviewing the case.

On June 26, IUPD received another report of an alleged sexual assault, this time said to have taken place sometime between June 21 and June 26 in Bradford Woods, according to Cornett. IU describes Bradford Woods as the university’s outdoor center in Martinsville, Indiana. Cornett said the investigation is ongoing.

Another report reached IUPD on June 9 from the Office of Civil Rights Compliance. That case involved an alleged sexual assault that occurred sometime between Feb. 1, 2025, and Feb. 18, 2025, on the IU Bloomington campus, Cornett wrote.

Indiana Has Two 2026 Breakout Candidates Fans Should Be Watching

Indianas offense and defense both have a couple of names worth keeping on the radar as the program starts looking ahead to 2026. Sophomore wide receiver Davion Chandler and transfer EDGE Joshua Burnham have both drawn positive internal reviews, and 247Sports has flagged each as a potential breakout candidate for the seasons ahead. Chandler flashed as a freshman and is expected to take on a much bigger role, while Burnham turned heads in spring and looks like the kind of pass rusher this defense can build around.

Chandlers next step could matter in a hurry for a receiver group that needs emerging playmakers, especially if his spring usage carries over into the fall. Burnham, meanwhile, arrives with a different kind of buzz after impressing coaches in workouts and putting himself in position to become a key piece on the edge. The interesting part now is how quickly both players can turn that offseason optimism into something more concrete once the games start counting. [Read more 🡒]

Indiana Recruiting Momentum Faces A Massive Test With Blue-Chip Decision Near

Elijah Kimbles college decision is set for Friday, giving Indiana a chance to put a bow on what has already been a promising run on the recruiting trail. The 4-star running back from Buffalo, N.Y., has become a major name to watch for the Hoosiers, who are trying to keep building momentum in a 2027 class that already sits inside the top 30 nationally. With Kimble down to Indiana, Syracuse, Ohio State and North Carolina, this is the kind of blue-chip battle that can say a lot about how far Indianas pitch is resonating.

For Indiana, the stakes go beyond one commitment. The Hoosiers would love to add another cornerstone piece to a class that still has room to grow, especially at running back, where they have only one pledge so far. Recruiting services have treated the race as a close one, with Ohio State holding a slight edge in one industry consensus view, but Indiana remaining right there. Fridays announcement will show whether the Hoosiers can turn that momentum into a signature win. [Read more 🡒]
