Indiana’s season opener was messy in plenty of places, but the wide receiver room gave the Hoosiers something to rave about in a 52-16 win over North Texas.
The day started with a bang from Nick Marsh, the transfer arrival from Michigan State who came to Indiana with plenty of attention and didn’t waste time showing why. He opened the scoring for 2026 with a one-handed touchdown catch on Indiana’s first possession, the kind of grab that will stick around in highlight reels all season.

Marsh’s final numbers were modest - two catches for 17 yards and a touchdown - but his impact went beyond the stat sheet. He also delivered a major block in the run game on a key fourth-down run early in the game.

Charlie Becker made sure the rest of the passing attack stayed loud, too. After being somewhat overlooked nationally this offseason - even though he was a major piece for Indiana down the stretch last year - Becker looked every bit like one of the country’s top receivers. He finished with four catches for 64 yards and two touchdowns, giving Indiana another big-play threat to lean on.

Tyler Morris was the only other Hoosier pass catcher with more than one reception, hauling in three passes for 35 yards. Brock Schott had just one catch, but it was a tough one, secured in traffic for 25 yards.

Davion Chandler also got in on the action with a 42-yard touchdown catch, another reminder that Indiana’s passing game can hit fast and hit deep even on a day when other parts of the offense weren’t clean.
The Hoosiers weren’t sharp across the board. The defense had issues with fundamentals, the run game never really got rolling, and mental mistakes showed up too often. Still, the receiver group looked dangerous enough to make the rest of the Big Ten pay attention.
That performance came with a notable visitor watching from the stands: 2027 five-star receiver Monshun Sales, who committed to Indiana this summer. Sales missed his Lawrence North game against Lawrence Central the night before because of back spasms.

Indiana now turns to Howard next week, another game that should tilt heavily in the Hoosiers’ favor and give the receivers another chance to put on a show before Big Ten play begins later in the month.
