Indiana's Ohio State Showdown Just Got An Extra Reason To Sting

As Indiana and Ohio State prepare for a pivotal clash with major playoff implications, fans are left wondering why College GameDay chose to spotlight a different matchup.

Indiana’s looming clash with Ohio State has all the makings of a centerpiece game, but it won’t get the College GameDay treatment in Week 7.

The Hoosiers and Buckeyes are set for a massive Big Ten meeting in Bloomington, with Indiana sitting at 6-0 and ranked No. 7 and Ohio State coming in at 5-1 and ranked No. 5. It’s the kind of matchup fans have had circled for months, and the stakes feel even bigger because it may be the biggest game ever played at Memorial Stadium.

Still, ESPN went in a different direction. On Saturday night, College GameDay announced it will head to Provo for Notre Dame’s matchup with BYU instead.

“Cougar fans, it’s been awhile 💭

That choice makes sense on one level. Notre Dame is No.

3, BYU is No. 8, and the show hasn’t been to Provo since 2009. But even with that backdrop, leaving Indiana and Ohio State off the board is a head-turner.

There’s plenty driving the case for Bloomington. Indiana is carrying a 22-game winning streak into the game, while Ohio State already has a loss on its record this season, falling to Texas. With the College Football Playoff picture tightening, the Buckeyes don’t have much room for another slip.

The matchup also carries a heavy championship shine. It features the last two national champions, with Ohio State winning it all in 2024 and Indiana doing the same last season.

Notre Dame and BYU, by contrast, both missed the CFP a year ago. Notre Dame refused to play a bowl game, while BYU beat Georgia Tech in the Pop Tarts Bowl.

And there’s real recent history between these two teams, too. Ohio State beat Indiana in Columbus in 2024, which remains Curt Cignetti’s only Big Ten regular-season loss at Indiana. The Hoosiers got even in last year’s Big Ten Championship Game, grinding out a 13-10 win that helped launch their run to a 16-0 season and a historic national title.

All of that is why this felt like a natural College GameDay stop. Instead, Bloomington gets left waiting while one of the season’s biggest games unfolds without the pregame spotlight it seemed built for.

Ohio State Now Gets The Undefeated Indiana Showdown Everyone Feared

Indiana kept its unbeaten run intact with a 20-17 win over Nebraska, the kind of tight road test that can reveal as much as it masks. The Hoosiers, still riding a 21-game win streak as the defending national champions, leaned on Curt Cignettis game management and a defense that did enough to survive a late Nebraska push.

Nebraska quarterback Anthony Colandrea helped spark the fourth-quarter tension with a 39-yard touchdown run, but Indiana answered when Josh Hoover connected twice with Nick Marsh for touchdowns. It was another reminder that the Hoosiers can win in different ways, and it sets up an Ohio State showdown with all the pressure and anticipation that comes with facing an undefeated Indiana team this late in the season. Josh Hoover Answered Indianas Biggest Late-Game Question

With the wind making life difficult for both offenses, Indiana found itself in a tight one against Nebraska before Josh Hoover settled things just enough late. The Hoosiers were outplayed in terms of volume, with Nebraska running far more snaps, but Indiana made the decisive throws when it mattered most and held on for a 20-17 win.

Hoover was not sharp for long stretches, and the conditions clearly affected his accuracy, but he kept working through it and found Nick Marsh twice for touchdown passes in the final stretch. For Indiana, that was the difference between a frustrating loss and a hard-earned finish, especially in a game where Nebraska had chances but could not turn all of its possessions into enough points. Indiana Just Added To A Nebraska Problem Fans Can't Ignore

Nebraska spent most of the afternoon in control before Indiana found a way to slip out with a 20-17 win, another close finish in a game that could have gone either way for much of the day. For the Hoosiers, a road result like that only adds to the belief that this team can grind through a tight game and still come out on top against quality competition.

For Matt Rhule and Nebraska, though, the loss only sharpens a bigger concern that fans have been circling for a while. Rhule is now 2-25 all-time against ranked opponents and still winless in nine tries against Top-25 teams since arriving in Lincoln, a record that lands harder given his recent extension through 2032 and the $8.5 million salary attached to this season.
