Curt Cignetti has the Indiana Hoosiers on an impressive trajectory, fresh off a historic National Championship win and bolstered by a strong recruiting push. With a top-20 recruiting class for 2026 already secured, Cignetti was also making strides for 2027. However, the program hit a bump with the decommitment of a standout 4-star wide receiver.
Ja'Hyde Brown, a top-tier 4-star wide receiver from Christian Academy of Louisville, has decided to reopen his recruitment. Brown, ranked as the No. 7 player in Kentucky and the No. 49 wide receiver nationally for the 2027 class by 247Sports Composite Rankings, had been committed to Indiana since January 10. Now, he’s exploring other options for his college career.
Brown is highly coveted, with 27 offers from major programs like Alabama, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Auburn, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, and Purdue. Standing at 5'10" and 186 pounds, Brown is described by 247Sports Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins as a "dynamic offensive weapon," known for his ability to make big plays with his vision, speed, and agility.
Last season, Brown dominated Kentucky high school football, leading the state in receptions (98), receiving yards (1,556), and touchdowns (24). His departure leaves a noticeable gap in Indiana's recruiting class, which now includes 4-star cornerback Monsanna Torbert Jr, 3-star quarterback Jameson Purcell, 3-star safety Garyon Hobbs, and 3-star offensive tackle Jeremiah Jones. With Brown's exit, Indiana's class ranking drops from No. 20 to No. 23 nationally.
