The Indiana Hoosiers just keep stacking wins-and not just on the football field. Fresh off a national championship in football, the Hoosiers men’s basketball program landed a major recruiting victory with the commitment of four-star small forward Trevor Manhertz. And this isn’t just a future pickup-Manhertz is reclassifying from the class of 2027 to 2026, meaning Indiana’s getting his talent a full year earlier than expected.
Trevor Manhertz Commits to Indiana, Reclassifies to 2026
Manhertz, a 6-foot-7 wing out of Green Level High School in North Carolina, was rated as the No. 15 small forward in the class of 2027 and the No. 3 overall prospect in his state. Despite flying under the radar with some of the traditional in-state powers-UNC, NC State, and Wake Forest didn’t extend offers-he still drew serious attention nationally. Duke, led by head coach Jon Scheyer, did make a push for him, but in the end, Manhertz chose Bloomington over Durham.
That’s a major win for Indiana head coach Darian DeVries, who’s quietly building something intriguing in the Hoosier State. With Manhertz now in the fold, Indiana’s 2026 recruiting class gets a significant boost.
Prior to his commitment, the class featured just two four-star signees: small forward Vaughn Karvala and combo guard Prince-Alexander Moody. Both had already inked their National Letters of Intent, but Manhertz’s addition gives the group a new level of versatility and upside.
A Rapid Rise in Production and Potential
What stands out about Manhertz isn’t just his frame or athleticism-it’s his growth curve. As a junior, he averaged 13.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 2.4 steals per game.
That’s a significant jump from his sophomore season, where he posted 5.5 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.1 steals per contest. His shooting numbers tell a similar story: he improved from 45% to 50% from the field and made a leap from 67% to 81% at the free-throw line.
That kind of year-over-year development is exactly what coaches look for in a recruit. It’s not just about what a player is today-it’s about the trajectory. And Manhertz is clearly on the rise.
What This Means for Indiana
For the Hoosiers, this is more than just a recruiting win-it’s a statement. Landing a top-35 national prospect who chose to accelerate his timeline shows that Indiana is becoming a destination again.
Manhertz brings a two-way presence to the wing with the ability to create, defend, and contribute right away. He’s not just a scorer-he’s a playmaker with a nose for the ball and a high basketball IQ.
With DeVries at the helm, Indiana is starting to build a roster that blends talent, versatility, and upside. Adding Manhertz to a class that already includes Karvala and Moody gives the Hoosiers a trio of four-star talents who can grow together and potentially form the core of Indiana’s next great team.
And now, with Manhertz arriving a year early, that future just got a little closer.
