Indiana Guard Jason Drake Plans Transfer Exit

In a surprising move, Indiana guard Jason Drake plans to enter the transfer portal, adding to the roster challenges facing Coach Darian DeVries as he rebuilds the team.

Indiana basketball guard Jason Drake is set to enter the transfer portal, a move that could shake up the Hoosiers' roster dynamics. With six players, including four starters, graduating, Indiana has several spots to fill, and Drake's decision adds another layer to the offseason puzzle.

Drake's journey has been quite the odyssey, having previously suited up for Cleveland State, Butler Community College, and Drexel before landing at Indiana. Last season, he was sidelined by a lower-body injury sustained during practice, just as the team was preparing for exhibition games in Puerto Rico. Despite staying in Bloomington for recovery, Drake remained on the injury report throughout the year.

Indiana coach Darian DeVries had hoped Drake would bolster the backcourt depth behind Conor Enright and Tayton Conerway. Unfortunately, his return was delayed, and the team had to navigate the season without his contributions.

As a starter for Drexel in the 2024-25 season, Drake showcased his skills by averaging 11.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game, while shooting an impressive 39.6% from beyond the arc. His ability to stretch the floor and contribute across the stat sheet made him a valuable asset.

Indiana's season ended without a postseason appearance, as they narrowly missed the NCAA Tournament. Now, with the transfer window opening from April 7-21, Coach DeVries and newly appointed executive director of basketball, Ryan Carr, have their work cut out for them. They'll be looking to retool the roster and make strategic additions to ensure the Hoosiers are competitive next season.

Meanwhile, Trent Sisley, a native of Santa Claus, has committed to returning to Indiana, providing some stability amid the changes. As the transfer portal continues to shape college basketball landscapes, the Hoosiers' offseason moves will be crucial in setting the stage for their future success.
