Indiana Fans Have One Big Week 9 Concern As Playoff Push Continues

With a key player still sidelined and another facing uncertainty, Indiana's strong injury management will be tested in their upcoming showdown against Minnesota.

Indiana’s Week 9 injury report brought a little good news and a little concern as the Hoosiers get ready for Minnesota.

The first Big Ten Football availability report for the matchup came out Wednesday night, and Indiana has already ruled out two players: WR Davion Chandler and DL Kellan Wyatt. DB Quan Sanks is listed as questionable, while QB Josh Hoover landed on the probable list.

Hoover is the name everyone will be watching. He appeared to be dealing with something against Michigan last weekend, when Indiana survived a 13-6 grinder but never found much rhythm on offense. Hoover went 8-for-18 for 81 yards and threw his first interception of the season in a game where he simply didn’t look like himself.

Afterward, Curt Cignetti said the staff talked about the possibility of turning to backup Grant Wilson. Indiana ultimately stayed with Hoover, deciding he gave the Hoosiers the best chance to win against Michigan’s defensive front.

For now, the probable tag is a positive sign, but Hoover’s status will stay under the microscope as more reports come out before kickoff. Getting him back to full strength matters plenty for Indiana’s push toward another College Football Playoff run.

Through the season, Hoover has completed 62.0% of his passes for 1,741 yards and 18 touchdowns against just one interception. He has also added 52 rushing yards and two scores on the ground.

Indiana has been relatively fortunate on the injury front this season, with the biggest early setback coming in Week 1 when RB Khobie Martin broke his forearm before taking a carry. Under Cignetti, the Hoosiers have made health a real advantage, and that has been a big part of their success over the last 2.5+ seasons.

Indiana and Minnesota are set for a Noon ET kickoff Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington.

Indiana Still Has Plenty Riding On Josh Hoovers Sudden Slide

Josh Hoover arrived at Indiana with the kind of preseason buzz that turns a transfer quarterback into an instant storyline, and he opened the 2026 season looking every bit like a Heisman contender. After moving over from TCU, he came in with favorable odds and gave the Hoosiers the sort of early production that made the fit look seamless, which only added to the excitement around what Indiana could become with him steering the offense.

The last couple of marquee games have changed the conversation, though, as losses and uneven stretches against Ohio State and Michigan pushed his Heisman stock in the wrong direction. Even so, Hoover's season numbers still stack up well, and Indiana's bigger goals are very much alive with the College Football Playoff picture still in play, which means the Hoosiers have plenty riding on how quickly he steadies things from here. Josh Hoover Powered Indiana Through A Michigan Moment Fans Won't Forget

Josh Hoover spent the kind of afternoon that tends to linger with a fan base long after the final whistle, playing through an undisclosed throwing arm injury and still helping Indiana grind out a 13-6 overtime win at Michigan Stadium. The quarterbacks ability to stay on the field gave the Hoosiers a steadying presence in a game that demanded patience, resilience and a little bit of grit.

Hoovers best work came when the pressure peaked in overtime, when he connected on a 21-yard pass and later finished the drive with a rushing touchdown. For Indiana, it was more than just a road win, it was the programs first victory at Michigan Stadium in 59 years, and afterward coach Curt Cignetti and teammates singled out Hoovers toughness and leadership as a big reason the moment belonged to the Hoosiers. Indiana Faces A Big Test To Prove Its Surge Is Real

Fresh off a road win at Michigan, Indiana is heading back home with a chance to show that the surge is something more than a good weekend. Hosting Minnesota in a Big Ten matchup brings a different kind of pressure, because the next step is not just about carrying momentum, but about proving the Hoosiers can handle the swing from a big road moment to the expectations that come with playing in front of their own crowd.

Indianas conference standing and postseason outlook will keep getting shaped by these kinds of games, which makes the margin for error thin. The challenge now is keeping the focus and execution that powered the last result, then doing it again against a Minnesota team that can turn a promising stretch into a legitimate statement if the Hoosiers are sharp from start to finish.
