Indiana Faces A Defining Weekend Across Three Major Programs

The Indiana Hoosiers are making headlines across multiple sports, with the football team gearing up for its first road game of the season, the basketball programs making strides in recruiting top talents, and the men's soccer team preparing for a cru

Indiana’s weekend slate is loaded, and the biggest spotlight is shining on football as the Hoosiers leave Bloomington for the first time this season.

Indiana heads to Piscataway on Saturday night to face Rutgers in its first road game of the year. The Hoosiers are 4-0 and ranked No. 6 in the country, while Rutgers comes in at 1-3.

That gap shows up in the betting line, with Indiana installed as a 24-point favorite. Still, there’s a wrinkle worth watching: Indiana’s RB depth is a major concern heading into Week 5.

It’s a situation to keep an eye on right up to kickoff, with the game set for 8 p.m. ET at SHI Stadium.

It will also be the first meeting with Rutgers in the Curt Cignetti era.

On the basketball front, Indiana is still pressing hard in the 2027 recruiting race for 5-star prospect Darius Wabbington. Darian DeVries has the Hoosiers in Wabbington’s final three, along with Arizona and Illinois.

The 6'11" big man is rated the No. 12 overall player and No. 2 center in the country by 247Sports. DeVries has not landed a 5-star commit yet in Bloomington, but Indiana looks closer than it has been.

Right now, the Hoosiers’ 2027 class includes 4-star guard Chase Branham and 7-foot center Felix Kiehlneker.

The women’s program had a major recruiting breakthrough on Friday. Teri Moren and Indiana landed 5-star forward Azy Jackson, who picked the Hoosiers over USC, Cal, North Carolina, and Kansas.

Jackson, a 6'4" forward from Suquamish, WA, is ranked No. 20 overall in the 2027 SC Next 100 and becomes the third commitment in Indiana’s 2027 class, joining 4-stars Brookeslee Colvin and Finley Parker. She averaged 14.6 points and 14.8 rebounds per game as a junior at Bonney Lake High School in Washington, but she tore her ACL in July and will miss her senior season.

Even so, she is expected to be fully recovered and ready for her freshman year in Bloomington.

And on the pitch, Indiana men’s soccer is gearing up for its toughest test yet. The Hoosiers are 8-0-2 and ranked No. 2 in the nation, but Friday night brings a Top-5 showdown with No.

4 Maryland at home. The Terrapins enter at 6-1-1, setting up a major early-season measuring stick for IU.

Indiana Suddenly Has A Backfield Problem At The Worst Time

Indianas backfield is suddenly in a precarious spot heading into its Week 5 matchup with Rutgers, and the timing could hardly be worse. Khobie Martin is officially out with a broken forearm, while Turbo Richard is still dealing with a high ankle sprain, leaving the Hoosiers to sort through a running back room that is already under strain.

Lee Beebe Jr. and Sean Cuono both landed on the questionable list on the latest availability report, which only adds to the uncertainty. With multiple names in flux, Indiana may have to lean heavily on depth and improvisation just to keep the ground game on schedule. [Read more 🡒]

Indiana May Need These Starters Most To Stay Unbeaten At Rutgers

As Indiana gets ready for a Week 5 trip to Rutgers, the Hoosiers are staring at a familiar early-season problem: injuries in the running back room could force the offense to lean even harder on its other staples. That puts extra importance on quarterback Josh Hoover and offensive tackle Carter Smith, two players Indiana may need to steady things if the ground game is less than full strength.

The other side of the equation is just as demanding. Rutgers has a top target in wide receiver KJ Duff, and cornerback Jamari Sharpe is expected to have a key role in trying to slow him down. In a game where every matchup feels a little sharper because of the injuries Indiana is carrying, the Hoosiers may find themselves asking their starters to cover more than one job. [Read more 🡒]

Indianas Unbeaten Start Is Fueling A Huge Draft Rise For Three Hoosiers

Indianas unbeaten start has done more than keep the Hoosiers in the conversation on the field. It has also pushed three of their key players into an early spotlight on the draft circuit, with ESPN draft analyst Jordan Reid placing wide receiver Charlie Becker, wideout Nick Marsh and offensive lineman Carter Smith among his top 50 prospects for the 2027 NFL Draft.

Becker comes in as Reids No. 8 overall prospect thanks to his size, speed and contested-catch ability, while Marsh lands at No. 26 for his physicality and route running. Smith checks in at No. 44 as a steady presence up front, a sign that Indianas unbeaten run is being built on more than one breakout star and that NFL evaluators are taking notice well before the 2026 season is over.
