Indiana basketball has already rolled through group play at the FISU America Games, and now the Hoosiers move into bracket play with a semifinal matchup against Chile at 3 p.m. Saturday.
Indiana entered the knockout round after going 2-0 in pool play, winning those two games by an average of 68 points. Argentina and the Virgin Islands are set to meet in the other semifinal.
The Hoosiers are representing the USA in an event that features college athletes from North, Central and South America and the Caribbean across 15 sports. The basketball field includes Chile, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Virgin Islands, Peru and Team USA.
Indiana’s games during the event are streaming on the FISU American Games’ YouTube page. There is no separate streaming or radio option, and event standings are available on the competition website.
The most recent Indiana win came against the Virgin Islands, and freshman Vaughn Karvala put together the kind of performance that jumps off the page. He scored 32 points on 11-of-14 shooting, including 7-of-10 from 3-point range. He was one of five Hoosiers to finish in double figures.
Aiden Sherrell nearly posted back-to-back double-doubles, finishing one rebound short. Indiana also got strong production from Sam Alexis, Prince-Alexander Moody, Markus Burton and Bryce Lindsay in the win.
Indiana shot 64% from the field and 43.2% from 3-point range.
