Indiana basketball’s opening-night win came with a setback on the sideline, as freshman guard Prince-Alexander Moody is expected to miss extended time after injuring his knee in practice.
Moody was on crutches and seated at the end of Indiana’s bench during Monday night’s 91-57 victory over Eastern Illinois. Coach Darian DeVries said the injury will keep him out for a while as the program continues to evaluate the situation.
“He had suffered a knee injury in practice and will be out for an extended period of time as we will continue to get him evaluated,” Indiana coach Darian DeVries said. “But don’t anticipate him having him back for quite some time. Unfortunate news there.”
Moody arrived in Bloomington as a four-star prospect from Bishop McNamara High School in Maryland. He was ranked No. 114 overall in the 2026 signing class and was expected to add depth in the backcourt behind Markus Burton, Bryce Lindsay and Darren Harris.
The injury trimmed one option from a roster DeVries had praised for its depth, though Indiana still spread the minutes around in the opener. Nine players logged at least 15 minutes, including Moody’s classmate Trevor Manhertz, who scored 11 points and was one of three Hoosiers to finish in double figures.
First-year Vaughn Karvala also made his debut.
“I would love for it to stay that way,” DeVries said. “There might be nights where maybe you go with a guy or two a little longer because they’ve really got it going and you want to keep them out there. But I love being able to continually sub.”

Indianas Playoff Push Suddenly Centers On One Troubling Josh Hoover Question
Curt Cignettis decision to replace Josh Hoover at halftime in an overtime win over Minnesota added a new layer to Indianas playoff push, because the Hoosiers have been leaning on a quarterback whose recent play has not looked quite as sharp as it did earlier in the season. Hoover has been dealing with an unspecified injury, and the dip in his passing accuracy over the last few games has become hard to ignore as Indiana tries to keep its momentum rolling.
The concern now is less about one rough stretch than what it might mean for the stretch run ahead. Former college quarterbacks Danny Kanell and Joel Klatt both weighed in on Hoovers physical condition and confidence, and their comments only sharpened the sense that something is off. For Indiana, the bigger question is whether Hoover can get back to full form in time to keep the Hoosiers on track. [Read more 🡒]
Philip Rivers Could Leave Alabama For A Job That Changes Two Programs
Philip Rivers has surfaced as a leading candidate to replace Dave Doeren at NC State, a development that would send the former NFL quarterback from a high school sideline in Alabama to one of the more intriguing openings in the ACC. Rivers, the former NC State standout, is currently coaching at St. Michael Catholic High School, where his son Gunner Rivers plays quarterback and has already committed to the Wolfpack.
The appeal is obvious even with the obvious leap of faith. Rivers has no college coaching experience, but some around the sport see the move as the kind of bold swing worth taking for a program looking to reset quickly. For NC State, it would be a homecoming with immediate recruiting implications, and for Rivers, it would mean leaving a familiar setup in Alabama for a job that could reshape both his coaching path and his sons next stop. Indianas Easy Win Came With One Backcourt Concern Fans Will Watch
Indianas season opener went the way most Hoosier fans would have wanted, with a steady wire-to-wire win over Eastern Illinois and a clear early identity taking shape. The offense kept pressure on the rim, the shot selection looked sharp, and the three-point touch gave the game a comfortable feel long before the final horn.
Prince-Alexander Moodys night, though, was the one subplot that lingered after the easy result. The freshman appeared injured during the game, and any issue there matters because Indianas backcourt depth is already something worth monitoring as the season gets rolling. [Read more 🡒]
