In the world of football, the journey from college stardom to the NFL is a path filled with both triumphs and challenges. For linebackers Cam Jones and Micah McFadden, their shared history at Indiana University laid the foundation for their professional careers.
Both Jones and McFadden were pivotal during the Hoosiers' impressive 2019 and 2020 seasons, where the team achieved a combined 14-7 record and made consecutive January bowl appearances. McFadden, who left Indiana for the NFL after the 2021 season, was drafted by the New York Giants in 2022. Since then, he has become a fixture in the Giants' defense, recently re-signing with the franchise.
McFadden's NFL journey began as a fifth-round pick, and over four seasons, he has played in 48 regular-season games, starting 36 of them. His stats are a testament to his impact on the field: 264 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, 15 quarterback hits, six passes defensed, six sacks, five fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles, and an interception.
Despite suffering a foot injury in the 2025 opener, which sidelined him for the season, McFadden's 2024 performance was stellar. He led the team with a career-high 107 tackles, alongside six quarterback hits and three sacks.
During his college days, McFadden was not only an All-Big Ten selection but also a two-time team captain, earning the Anthony Thompson Most Valuable Player Award twice. His leadership and skill set made him a standout at Indiana.
Cam Jones, on the other hand, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2023, coinciding with their Super Bowl victory. Over three seasons, he has played 44 regular-season games, including stints with the Chiefs and the New York Jets. Jones has contributed 24 tackles on defense and 17 on special teams, showcasing his versatility.
Jones has also experienced postseason action, including an appearance in Super Bowl LIX. After being released by the Chiefs at the end of training camp last season, he was quickly picked up by the Jets. There, he reunited with fellow Hoosier Marcelino McCrary-Ball and played in 10 games in 2025.
Both Jones and McFadden exemplify the resilience and determination required to succeed at the highest level of football. Their journeys from college teammates to NFL competitors highlight the unpredictable and rewarding nature of professional sports.
