Former Indiana cornerback commit Monsanna Torbert Jr. is about to make his next move, and the finish line is coming Wednesday.
247Sports reports that Torbert will announce his commitment on Wednesday, July 1 at 5 p.m. ET, with the decision set to go live on the CBS Sports College Football YouTube channel. The 4-star prospect is down to Michigan and Ohio State, though Indiana is still technically listed among his finalists.
That old Indiana connection feels more like a formality than a real contender at this point. Torbert had already backed off his pledge to the Hoosiers earlier this spring, and the latest projections point to another Big Ten destination.
On3’s Prediction Machine has five recruiting experts weighing in, with three picking Ohio State and two landing on Michigan. Rivals’ Industry Consensus also gives the Buckeyes the nod, listing Ohio State at 61.5% and Michigan at 37.1%.
Torbert was once Indiana’s highest-rated commit in the 2027 class, so his departure stung. He’s a Princeton High School product from Cincinnati, standing 5-foot-11 and 175 pounds, and Rivals ranks him as the No. 4 player in Ohio, the No. 14 cornerback and the No. 97 overall prospect in the 2027 cycle.
If he ends up at Ohio State or Michigan, it adds another layer to Indiana’s recruiting story in a class that’s still in solid shape overall. Curt Cignetti has assembled a 2027 group that already includes 16 commits, with six blue-chip names among them: EDGE Myles Smith, LB Jalaythan Mayfield, OT Mason McDermott and DL Reinaldo Lopez, all 4-stars by Rivals, plus S Brady Scott, who recently picked up a fourth star from ESPN, and WR Branden Sharpe, who earned 4-star status from 247Sports.
Indiana has already lost two 4-star commits this spring. Wide receiver Ja’Hyde Brown has since landed at Louisville, while Torbert’s path has now narrowed to a pair of heavyweight programs.
Rivals currently has Indiana’s 2027 class ranked No. 29 nationally, while Ohio State sits at No. 5 and Michigan at No. 13.
Whatever Torbert chooses on Wednesday, it will be a Big Ten answer - and one that sends him somewhere other than Bloomington.

Indiana University is turning to a familiar name in Indiana legal circles for one of its most important administrative jobs. Tom Froehle has been named the schools new vice president and general counsel, a move that will take effect Aug. 17 and put him in charge of advising the university on the legal issues that come with running a major public institution.
Froehle arrives with more than 30 years of experience counseling corporations, universities and government entities, and his background includes work with Honda, the NCAA and United Airlines. IU president Pamela Whitten said the university is getting a leader with the experience and judgment needed for a complex public university, while Froehle called the role an honor as he prepares to succeed Anthony Prather in the post. Indiana Just Made A Massive Move In Key Big Man Battle
Indianas 2027 recruiting class is still in its infancy, with Chase Branham as the lone commitment so far, but Darian DeVries has already put the Hoosiers in position for a much bigger swing. The latest target is five-star big man Darius Wabbington, who has trimmed his list to six finalists and given Indiana a seat at the table in one of the more important frontcourt battles in the class.
The official visits are already beginning to stack up, with Louisville, Arizona and Texas set on the calendar, while Indiana is still waiting to lock in its date. That leaves the Hoosiers with some ground to make up, but also a real opening to sell Wabbington on what his role could look like in Bloomington as DeVries keeps building out the roster for the years ahead.
