Trayce Jackson-Davis is heading back to Bloomington this weekend, but the former Indiana star won’t be back in Cream and Crimson.
Instead, Jackson-Davis says he’ll be in North Texas gear when the Mean Green visit Memorial Stadium for Saturday’s season opener against Indiana. The trip brings him back to the city where he built one of the best careers in program history.
Jackson-Davis left IU as the school’s all-time leader in rebounds with 1,143 and blocked shots with 270. He also finished third on the Hoosiers’ all-time scoring list with 2,258 points and third in triple-doubles with 50.
After that college run, Jackson-Davis has spent the last three seasons in the NBA, appearing in 182 games with the Warriors and Raptors.
This weekend’s game also puts him in the stands for a very different reason: his younger brother, Tayven Jackson, is North Texas’ starting quarterback. Jackson-Davis made his stance clear earlier this week while talking with ESPN’s Sam Acho on his podcast.
"I’m definitely gonna be repping the Mean Green with my brother. It’s always family first. I have no hate against Indiana by any means, but it’s definitely gonna be a Mean Green show, and I’ll be there front and center, cheering him on."
That family tie gives Saturday a little extra weight. Tayven Jackson is no stranger to Bloomington, either.
He spent two seasons with Indiana’s football program in 2023 and 2024, appearing in 13 games. During that time, he threw for 1,263 yards with 6 touchdowns and 6 interceptions, and he added 52 rushing yards and 4 scores.
Jackson then moved on to UCF last season, where he posted a career-high 2,151 passing yards and 10 touchdowns while also running for 85 yards and 3 touchdowns. Now he’s with a North Texas program that is entering a new era under head coach Neal Brown, and his first game with the Mean Green comes with a major challenge.
Indiana’s defense is built to make that challenge even tougher. The Hoosiers were one of the best defensive teams in the country last season and return four of their top-five sack leaders from that title team. They also added transfer edge rushers Tobi Osunsanmi and Chiddi Obiazor, giving the pass rush even more bite.
That matters because Jackson threw 8 interceptions in 11 games at UCF last season, and IU defensive coordinator Bryant Haines has plenty of reason to lean into pressure. Haines’ defense forced 30 turnovers last season, which ranked third in the nation, and Indiana could come after Jackson early and often.
